Netflix 6888. Great movie.
A female African American WAC Battalion is sent overseas during WWII to solve the problem of 17 million pieces of undelivered mail.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

I rewatched The War Of The Worlds last night. The 1953 version.

For that time, the special affects were pretty amazing. I looked at the Wiki page to see how they were done. Pretty creative. I always like to see how the older movies made things work.

Rewatching "Night Agent" 1st season, before we begin watching the second. First season was pretty good hd a lot of interesting twists.

Watched In Plain Sight for the 2nd time.  1st time was long enough ago that I did not remember the plot of the episodes.

The show is about the US Marshals' Witness Protection Service.  One of the things I like about the show is that it shows the FBI pukes to be major *ssholes.

Mary McCormack was great in her role.   She plays a crotchety marshal, with a quip about everything.

Guaranteed to keep you awake all night compelled to watch "...one more episode"?  Six (6) episodes total.

Netflix's AMERICAN PRIMEVAL is the culprit.  A gripping story set in 1850's Utah, which portrays Brigham Young (Kim Coates of SONS OF ANARCHY fame) and his Mormon male flock in a most unfavorable light.

This is America... 1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival.

This weekend's movie:
"The Seventh Sign", from 1988.
Not sure what it's about, sounds quasi-religious in nature.
Will find out soon...

A lot of those early Mormon leaders were not good people. They were, very much, a cult, and the likes of Smith and Young ran their religion like a cult.

It is a testament to the modern CoJC-LDS (and, let's face it, the Osmonds) that it no longer has that air. As someone who is not a Mormon, I'll say that there are a lot of things we as mainline Christians could learn from them, and they do get some things right that a lot of "Christian" churches do not.

Watched it. It is as bad as they say. It is a superhero show produced for early-teen children.

Watched an Angel Studio movie (HOMESTEAD) about a TEOTWAWKI (SHTF) doomsday scenario (nuclear bomb off coast of California)... Story centers around a Colorado compound owned by some Christian owners that prepared for this collapse of society and a bunch of moral choices... There was a stupid kid love story that could of been dropped, and the women/wives want to open the doors to everyone while the men see it as a sure fire way to starve to death. Ugg, women should have to watch in one room while us men watch in another... Cause it makes you wanna yell at the screen. Also there is turmoil with the fighter faction and the less tough members (save everyone crowd).

That said, I did like that it was realistic in a lot of ways (no aliens or super-natural creatures to fight)... which I liked... I like that "the government" is not sheltered from being a bad guy. But the end of the movie basically just invites you to watch the spin off series to continue the story (Ugg, and you have to have a subscription to watch their stuff)....

I would like to watch a series that had a lot of the gun guys here writing the story line... because even Mormon can be too PC to stomach at times. Had a decent cast (males)... I guess the women were good too, cause they sure got my dander up yelling at them.

Watched THE TERROR (10 episodes) on NETFLIX.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_terror/s01

https://www.vox.com/culture/2018/3/26/17163368/the-terror-review-amc-dan-simmons-jared-harris

AMC’s The Terror is a near masterpiece of survival horror
The miniseries reimagines Dan Simmons’s Arctic-bound novel — based on a true story — as a long, slow descent into hell.

It’s Simmons’s biggest swing, decoupling from the book entirely to suggest that the apocalypse is no one moment but rather unfurling all around us all the time. Your best day is the end of the world for somebody else. And on it goes.

The irony of bringing the specter of climate change into his book so late is that Simmons has set the bulk of his novel amid the story of the doomed Franklin expedition, which set sail for the Arctic in 1845 in hopes of finding the Northwest Passage, only to find itself iced in for years on end.

The expedition vanished, the men never to be heard of again. The HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, the two warships they retrofitted to be icebreakers, were finally found on the ocean floor in 2014 and 2016, respectively. (You may have read about it.) What remains we have found of the expedition suggest a long, slow descent into utter hell, with the survivors perhaps even resorting to cannibalism.

The melting of the polar ice cap may yet bring about an extinction-level event for humanity, but the members of the Franklin expedition encountered their own apocalypse out there, on all that ice, amid the bleary white. If that sounds like a depressing thing to make a 10-episode TV series about, well, it is. It’s also tremendous.

The Crazies - 1973 (There was a remake that got good reviews too, but I didn't watch it).

Another older SHTF doomsday virus movie... Small town get a deadly that turn the townfolks into zombie-like crazy people for a few hours then they die. Government sent in to contain the virus that released (plane crash)... It get ugly eventually as the town folks see the government rounding them up (and some are infected crazy).... Fairly intelligent Army/Medical/Bureaucracy in that they don't portray them as stupid. One smart ex-Marine gets a group together to escape.... will they make it?

Can watch for free on Youtube...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNnmDFFt_OE

The guns used in the film can be found here... Mostly M1 Carbines, some with 30 round mags.

https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/The_Crazies_(1973)

I will give it a high rating 7/10 (good for me)... film is a little dated, but enjoyable.

"The Star Wagon", a tv production of the old Maxwell Anderson play.
Saw it many, many years ago.
I think Orson Bean played the central figure...

Been watching The Midnight Special, the 1970s late-night music concert series. Burt Sugarman has been putting the series episodes, one-by-one, on YouTube. It's a fascinating music capsule, obviously heavy on the mainstream stuff but a few gems here and there, and a surprisingly hefty dose of the "oldies but goodies."

The one they posted this week, Bobby Vinton was the host and I was genuinely impressed with how well he adapted his sappy 60s schmalz to a  live audience that was attuned to funk and rock.

Star Trek died as far as I am concerned after the Bakula era (2000-2005)

As much as I loved the old Star Trek, it has sadly become a steaming hot pile of woke shit.

Scott Bakula was in fact the most honest and real portrayal of a 'real' captain on a real ship. I have been deployed and underway with some scary shit going on. Bakula was real. He reacted as a real commander.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
