Half the miracle is how that plane crashed without a fire. Maybe it ran out of fuel, and that's why. 
Surprisingly enough, less than 20% of aircraft accidents involve fire. Usually when it does, it is after the plane has crashed, and when it does, it accounts for many of the fatalities (in addition to trauma from the crash).
But it's a bit like Pintos blowing up when rear ended. The ones that did made the news. The crashes everyone walked away from (no fire), not so much.
