Perhaps he "forgot" about the ammo in the same way I've forgotten which lake my AR-15s disappeared into after that tragic boating accident last year. Ummmmm ... if I go to the range for practice/fun, what would I do as soon as I get home? I would put away my gun(s), ammo, and related equipment. I'm having a hard time believing the, "I forgot," excuse. Forgetting the routine X-ray check seems more plausible to me.

I do think "Cache" is a bit of an overstatement for 11 rounds of ammo.

Smuggled in piece by piece earlier. Hidden somewhere next to Hunter's joyful snow cache. As bad as DC is, there should be a place to park you guns entering/exiting congressional buildings.
