New report shows nearly 70% of Biden admin's education enforcement targeted Christian and career colleges
Christian colleges Grand Canyon University and Liberty University have been subjected to sharp scrutiny

A report showed that nearly 70% of enforcement actions executed by the Biden administration’s Education Department targeted faith-based and career schools.

According to a press release published by the American Principles Project (APP), they drew on newly obtained data finding that nearly 70 percent of the Department of Education’s (ED) enforcement actions dealt with faith-based and career schools, even though those schools represent less than 10 percent of students in the US.

APP Policy Director Jon Schweppe said the Democrats have been "busy weaponizing every part of the federal government to target their opponents" for the past four years.

"While major assaults from agencies like the Department of Justice have taken most of the headlines, we should not ignore similarly corrupt efforts in other agencies as well," Schweppe said.

(Nov. 8, 2024) – Today, in a significant win for Grand Canyon University, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in a 3-0 decision, held that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) acted unlawfully by applying the incorrect legal standard in determining GCU’s nonprofit status and remanded the case back to ED.

Despite GCU’s nonprofit approvals from the State of Arizona, the Internal Revenue Service, the Arizona Board for Private Postsecondary Education and the Higher Learning Commission, ED, in 2019, refused to recognize the University’s lawful nonprofit status.

The Ninth Circuit held that ED exceeded the authority granted to it under the Higher Education Act in its unprecedented decision against GCU and remanded it back to apply the correct standard under the Higher Education Act — the traditional private inurement test — which the IRS has already approved and ED has not argued was an issue in its decision against GCU.

The Grand Canyon University - which has been around for more decades than I have - kerfuffle started in 2019, during Trump's Administration, but most of the fighting occurred during Biden's. The Department of Education got smacked down, by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, 3-0, and not on some sort of technical issue. The Court ruled that the Department of Education does not have the legal authority it asserted in attacking GCU.

IMO, the Department of Education should be abolished, and hamstrung and gutted until that can be done.

This will not eliminate the problem, with a single battle won.

The way to win the war is to eliminate the entire department and to prosecute those individuals within the department who went outside the law to deny organizations and people their First Amendment rights.

This war is being carried out by the Department of Education’s Office of Enforcement, “an obscure agency created under President Obama and resurrected by President Biden,” whose goal is to “shut down colleges and universities that don’t align with the Administration’s woke agenda.” Their tactics include:

    Impose massive penalties against leading institutions
    Harass schools operating in good faith with scrutinize-and-fine investigations.
    Cut off or threaten colleges’ and universities’ access to Title ICX funding.

The report further found:

    Within the last year, the Biden-Harris Department of Education imposed record fines against two of the nation’s most prominent Christian universities—Grand Canyon University ($37.7 million) and Liberty University ($14 million). These fines total more than all other penalties the Department of Education assessed over the past seven years. ...
