Elon Musk Explodes With Fury at Jeff Bezos "Sue Origin."
« on: June 27, 2024, 01:13:32 am »
The Byte by Victor Tangermann 6/26/2024

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has reignited his longstanding feud with Amazon founder and Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos.

Blue Origin, which has yet to launch a single rocket into orbit, filed documents with the Federal Aviation Administration last week, arguing that SpaceX's plans to launch Starship rockets from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida should be limited to ensure "minimal impact on the local environment, locally operating personnel, and the local community."

Musk didn't take to the suggestion kindly, firing back on his social media platform X.

"An obviously disingenuous response," he posted in response on Tuesday. "Not cool of them to try (for the third time) to impede SpaceX's progress by lawfare."

He then followed up with his favored derogatory nickname for his competitor and its legal maneuvering: "Sue Origin."

SpaceX Big Solution Landing Starship On Droneship Avoid Blue Origin Suing!

TECH MAP

SpaceX Big Solution Landing Starship On Droneship Avoid Blue Origin Suing!

SpaceX is building the launch tower for Starship at LC-39A, and things are about to get really exciting. This site, already famous for its Falcon 9 launches, will soon witness the mightiest rocket ever built.

Especially, SpaceX is also facing obstacles from competitors Blue Origin and ULA in launching Starship here.

The Jeff Bezos company has filed its latest legal action against Elon Musk’s SpaceX, this time requesting that an airspace regulator limit the number of Starship launches in Florida.

Standing before a colossal project like constructing the launch tower for Starship, requires meticulous planning and obtaining the necessary permits. As a result, SpaceX has laid out its ambitious operational plans for the FAA to thoroughly review every environmental aspect of launching and landing Starship and Super Heavy.

Now, let's zoom in on the Starship launch proposals that SpaceX has put forward: First off, Starship, after its grand voyage, returns to its roots, and lands on the very launchpad that witnessed its ascent.

Like a giant robotic embrace, Mechazilla, extends its arms to gently cradle Starship and Super Heavy, ensuring a smooth and secure landing.

Secondly, Just as impressive, Starship will gracefully touch down on an unmanned drone ship, amidst the vast expanse of the open ocean.

And the final possibility, Starship will make a controlled landing in the ocean, a scenario successfully tested during their historic Flight 4. yep, that’s expendable mode.

Blue Origin logs SpaceX Starship concerns as it preps for 1st New Glenn launch

PHYS.ORG by Richard Tribou, Orlando Sentinel 7/5/2024

As Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin prepares for the first launch of its New Glenn rocket from Cape Canaveral this year, the company has taken time to voice concerns over future launches of competitor SpaceX's massive Starship and Super Heavy, also planning to launch from the Space Coast.

Elon Musk's company continues development of the most powerful rocket ever to reach orbit from its test site in Texas, but has plans for launch pads at both Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and neighboring Kennedy Space Center.

The Department of the Air Force is the midst of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the new rocket to launch from Canaveral's Space Launch Complex 37 aiming to take over the space that was used by United Launch Alliance until its final launch of the Delta IV Heavy earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration is performing a similar environmental impact assessment on a Starship launch pad from KSC's Launch Complex 39-A where SpaceX currently flies its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets.

The period for public comment on the FAA's assessment continued through June 24 before the EIS moved into its next phases.

Blue Origin took the opportunity to log its concerns and among its suggestions were limiting the number of launches SpaceX can perform from Florida.

Noting its more than $1 billon investment at Canaveral's Space Launch Complex 36, Blue Origin points out it employs 2,700 full-time employees in Brevard County including 449 at Canaveral "that are directly impacted by local launch activities."

Blue Origin's interests in the FAA's assessment include "the safe and effective preservation and transportation of real and personal property and personnel that will be impacted" by the introduction of Starship launches, which produce around 17 million pounds of thrust on launch—more than twice the power of the Saturn V rockets from the Apollo program.

Among the concerns from launching such a large rocket are launch pad anomalies, debris dispersion, blast overpressure, sonic boom overpressure, explosion, fire, air quality, noise or other effects during launch, landing or other operations.

Blue Origin also raised concerns over "the preservation of historical and environmental resources at or around KSC under Blue Origin's control, including those owned by USSF, NASA or other U.S. government entities."

Why is Jeff Bezos launching another lawfare attack on SpaceX?

The Hill by Mark R. Whittington 7/7/2024

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is on a roll. The company is preparing for the fifth flight test of the Starship, in which it is hoped that the Mechazilla arms will catch the Super Heavy first stage and bring it down to a soft landing.

SpaceX has an almost billion-dollar contract to bring down the International Space Station safely into the ocean. Bloomberg reports that SpaceX may sell shares in the company to insider investors that would give it a value of about $200 billion.

However, to use that phrase from “Die Hard,” Jeff Bezos, whose Blue Origin company aspires to be a competitor to SpaceX, is trying to be a fly in the ointment, a monkey in the wrench, a pain in the backside where Elon Musk’s long-term plans are concerned.

Bezos has filed a complaint with the FAA seeking to curb Starship launches from the Kennedy Space Center, which Musk plans to do once the giant rocket is operational. Bezos’s excuse is that launching too many Starships would be bad for the environment.

This is not the first time that Bezos has launched a lawfare attack on SpaceX. He petitioned the General Accounting Office to overturn NASA’s awarding of the Human Landing System contract to Musk’s company. When the GAO turned the petition down, Bezos sued in federal court. The court eventually dismissed the lawsuit.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
