Gaza protests block gate at New Mexico’s Kirtland Air Force Base
By Associated Press and Rachel S. Cohen
 Thursday, May 2

About two dozen protesters sat in the middle of a roadway blocking access to one of the main gates at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, Thursday morning, waving flags and vowing to “shut everything down” over U.S. military support for Israel’s war in Gaza.

Base spokesman Rob Smith said Kirtland supports citizens’ rights to peacefully assemble and protest and that base security would monitor the situation throughout the day. Meanwhile, the gate would remain closed indefinitely and people who work on the base were advised to use other routes.

The protest comes just days after 16 people — including five students — were arrested at the University of New Mexico just a few miles away after they occupied the campus’ student union building and caused damage inside.

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

The AF should have escorted the demonstrators away from the area with their faces on the ground and military members holding each ankle. ****slapping

Just drag them away by the ankles while their faces plow a furrow in the ground.

Are there no fighter jets on the base? A few high speed low altitude passes should suffice to clear the gates. And whatever happened to the microwave crowd dispersal weapons that were talked about years ago? I imagine having your skin feel like it was on fire might provide an impetus to rapidly be elsewhere.

Well, it is an airbase - which implies plenty of vehicles that travel in the air - so 16 useless wastes of human flesh and space are most likely not doing a lot to prevent necessary ingress or egress.

How so?

Probably the thinking is the Air Force base is military...military break things and kill people when they deem necessary, so interfering with their operations is a danger to everyday American citizens.

Because it is infringing on other people's rights by force. Like blocking a freeway. It is also illegal. Standing on the side of the road protesting without threats is peaceful protesting.
