First Republican publicly backs Greene effort to oust Speaker Johnson

BY MYCHAEL SCHNELL - 04/16/24 9:52 AM ET

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced Tuesday he will co-sponsor a resolution to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from the House’s top job.

Massie told his colleagues during a closed-door conference meeting that he will co-sponsor the motion to vacate resolution filed late last month by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), according to three GOP lawmakers in the room, becoming the first lawmaker to publicly join Greene’s effort.

And we are probably going to end up with Speaker Jeffries in an election year.

Yep... I hope the GOP can win the Senate, cause I don't see the GOP winning the White House and I doubt the public will support the GOP taking control of the House after this fiasco.

Speaker Johnson: ‘I Don’t Worry About the Vacate Motion at All’

Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) dismissed efforts to oust him from the speakership.

Johnson isn't worried as he's already made the backroom deals the DEMS wanted him to make.

What gets me about what happened last fall, and MTG and Massie now, is that they claim to be standing up for the majority of the caucus, and opposing cooperation with Democrats.

Yet, if this motion ever makes it to the floor, the overwhelming majority of the very same people who they claim to be representing will be voting against them.  How can you claim to be standing up for people who are telling you to shut up and wait down??   And means MTG and Massie would be siding with Democrat against the overwhelming majority of Republicans - a much worse ration of Democrat to GOP support than anything Johnson has done.

Talk about cognitive dissonance.

I'd have no issue with a motion to vacate if a majority of the GOP caucus has identified an alternative Speaker they are willing to support.    My issue is with a tiny minority of the caucus trying to impose its will on the overwhelming majority, and causing chaos as a result because there is no agreement on an alternative.  It is entirely possible that there is nobody else in that caucus who can get the almost unanimous support required

MTG and Massie are against having an open, standalone vote on a single issue.   Which is the exact same kind of process they've always claimed they wanted with second bills.

Everyone is free to vote for or against it.

I don't see the point in Vacating the Chair, to be honest.  We're not gonna get better because the GOP in Congress only wants deep state leadership.

They want the leadership they elected, which is why they elected them in the first place.  And it's why none of this made any strategic sense at all.
