How do Republicans not see they’re getting crushed in 2024?
Trump's move to the center on abortion may be too little, too late

During the 2016 campaign for president, Donald Trump tried to steer clear of the third-rail issue of abortion. But when broaching the subject, he vowed to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 law that codified abortion rights. He won.

But 2024 is a different bird. The Supreme Court vacated Roe v. Wade, and 21 states moved quickly to restrict abortion access, with one bolting back to an 1864 law that outlaws nearly all abortions.

Here’s the problem for the GOP: For many Americans, abortion has become one of the top issues of the race, and Republicans are on the wrong side — not only for this election, but for history.

Over the last few decades, Americans have moved left. Same-sex marriage? Fine. Legalize marijuana? Sure. And abortion? Far more Americans accept it as the status quo.

But the high court’s 2022 Dobbs decision that ruled abortion is not a protected right under the Constitution has changed everything.

Before that ruling, a majority of Americans mostly thought abortion should be legal but with significant restrictions — the truly centrist position. After the ruling, Gallup polls “suggest that almost 10% of Americans on net switched from an anti-abortion position to a position favoring abortion access,” The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

What’s more, a Wall Street Journal poll last month found that abortion is the singular issue this time around, standing out from the border crisis, soaring inflation, and the cost of foreign wars as the one major issue on which most voters trust President Biden more than Mr. Trump.

My take:
Let's move 15-20 years into the future. From that perspective, an impartial observer is going to look back and reason that the conservative position of "Right to Life" was MORE PROTECTED under Roe, than it is in the Dobbs era ("post-Roe").

How could that be? It wasn't supposed to happen this way, right...?

Wasn't the removal of Roe supposed to "turn back" the abortion issue from an "improperly-decided" Supreme Court decision, and restore it to the states, and thus, "to the people" ???

Wasn't that supposed to be in the best spirit of the [otherwise forgotten] Tenth Amendment ???

Folks, that's EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.
The states -- and "the people -- now HAVE "the power" to decide the abortion debate at the state and at the "ballot box level".

Think about this:
The midwestern/western/southern (and mostly "red") states are the ones with the most (cough) "progressive" laws regarding referendum, initiative, and constitutional "amending".

Conversely, the Atlantic/Northeastern (and more likely "blue") states DO NOT HAVE such voter-progressive options. Certainly not in New England.

So... it's going to be in the mostly red states where we see the popular initiatives to liberalize abortion, and such initiatives are going to mostly succeed in them.

Look at Ohio, where the state constitution was amended through a public vote to include liberalized abortion. And that initiative "won bigly".

It's going to happen in Florida and Arizona this November.

The DCommunists have found their winning strategy for the next several election cycles. Even if they put forth an initiative that loses on the first pass, they'll just repeat it and repeat it and repeat it and repeat it until they DO win (the same way they count ballots, eh...?).

If you are anti-abortion, YOU WERE BETTER OFF UNDER ROE.
It's going to take some time for that to sink in.
But eventually, when all "the Dobbs dust clears", you'll look back...
... and wonder, "what the heck happened...?"

R Mo-o-o-o-o-ooooooderates have been telling Pro-Life people to shut up, sit in the back of the bus, and vote as they're told since 1992. That really worked well for GHWB and Bob Dole (not the only problem for the Rs in those years, but needlessly alienating a significant % of one's voters was STOOOpid).

Doesn't matter. Roe was bad law - fiat law written by judges. That needed to be overturned.

And any other federal law later instated should be overturned again.

Not because of life, but because it is bad law.
