Trey Gowdy inside court: Prosecution wraps arguments with highly objectionable illustration
I really like it when prosecutors end on a crescendo - on a high note that marries logic with passion. This one did not end that way. Actually ended as it should have begun - with the perfunctory stuff like presumption of innocence etc. Juries don't know the difference between great closings and not great ones. This is likely their only trial. He ends with a highly objectionable illustration. Prosecutor ends by asking for 34 guilty verdicts for interfering with an election.

Prosecution in closing arguments says everything Trump and cohorts did was 'lies'

New York prosecutor Joshua Steinglass in concluding his closing arguments accused former president Donald Trump and cohorts of "lies" in bank accounts, shell companies, false denials.

“The name of the game was concealment and all roads lead to the man who benefited most, the defend, Donald Trump,"he said.

Steinglass said Trump was actively trying to prevent “catch & kill” scheme from going public – he had every reason to conceal election fraud.

Steinglass says the jurors don’t have to agree on the unlawful means.--Steinglass says everything Trump and cohorts did was “lies” in bank accounts, shell companies, false denials.

Closing arguments concluded Thursday night. Court will resume on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. for jury instructions

Trey Gowdy: Prosecution not 'ending on a high note' as closing arguments come to a close

Prosecution has done a steady, albeit not spectacular job in summation, but is hardly ending on a high note. Being shut down by the court a couple of times and ending on esoteric matters. But we finally know the other law that was violated! A federal law.

Verdict could come as soon as Wednesday
By Ben Kochman and Kyle Schnitzer

Jurors are set to begin deliberations Wednesday in the historic criminal trial against Donald Trump.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan will instruct the jurors when court reconvenes at 10 a.m., a process that is likely to take at least an hour.

The seven men and five women on the panel will then start weighing the case and a verdict could come anytime after that.

Prosecutor apologizes for hours-long closing argument

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass apologized to jurors for his more than five hours of closing arguments.

"I apologize for trading brevity for clarity," he told them a few minutes before wrapping up at around 8 p.m.

Steinglass, who started at around 2:07 p.m., also bizarrely invoked Trump's infamous line about shooting someone on Fifth Avenue.

“Donald Trump can’t shoot someone on Fifth Avenue during rush hour and get away with it!” he told jurors toward the end of his summations.

Defense lawyers objected to that line, with the objection sustained and struck from the record by the judge.

Trump does not speak to reporters after court as jurors dismissed after lengthy closing arguments

Donald Trump did not make a statement to reporters as he left the courthouse at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The former president raised and pumped his left fist as he walked out following a long day of closing arguments in the "hush money" trial.

Jason Miller had stated that Trump had a "private event" at 8:30 p.m. and was unlikely to speak with the press.

Trump trial: Prosecutor mocks ‘laughable’ defense as jury stays late
By
Kaelan Deese

.

NEW YORK — Jurors were still seated in the courtroom for closing arguments in the hush money trial against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday as prosecutors mocked the defense’s “laughable” closing arguments from earlier in the day.

The 18-member jury, which has six alternate members, appeared to pay close attention as prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said defense attorneys for Trump went to “laughable lengths in a feeble attempt to cast doubt” on the veracity of the testimony and documents revealed to jurors earlier in the trial.

Steinglass pointed to a footnote from a 2018 Office of Government Ethics form while laughing about how the defense cited the form to suggest that all of Trump’s business records were legally sound.

The footnote from the form stated, “ln 2016 expenses were incurred by one of Donald J. Trump’s attorneys, Michael Cohen. Mr. Cohen sought reimbursement of those expenses and Mr. Trump fully reimbursed Mr. Cohen in 2017.”

“If he was still doing legal work, why wasn’t he paid a dime in 2018?” Steinglass asked. “When the reimbursement was done, the payments stopped.”

Trump is charged with 34 felony counts for allegedly falsifying business records related to reimbursement payments he made to Cohen for the hush money Cohen paid to porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence ahead of the 2016 election about an alleged affair with Trump that the former president denies. Prosecutors introduced as evidence 11 checks, 12 ledger entries, and 11 invoices used to pay Cohen a total of $420,000 in 2017.

Steinglass at one point Tuesday evening pointed out that his closing arguments had been going on for an extraordinary length of time given that he had been talking to the jury since 2 p.m. local time and the closing arguments were continuing as 8 p.m. approached.

“I know what you’re thinking: Is this guy going to go through every single month’s worth of checks?” Steinglass said to the jury. “The answer is no.”

I liked DeNiro as an actor and many of his roles in films.  As a person -he's a liberal whack-a-doo.

I liked him in Bang the Drum Slowly, The Deerhunter, Raging Bull, The Mission, Cape Fear, and Casino.  But everything after that, he has been a subpar actor surviving on his Taxi Driver reputation.

Whenever I need any information on a legal proceeding, I look to Robert De Niro

Back during the Mueller investigation, I would watch Rachel Maddow’s  show just to gauge her coverage of the investigation. She was convinced that Mueller would find that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the election and that the Mueller investigation was just a formality.  I thought that popped in my mind then while watching her coverage was, what are these people gonna do if they  don’t get the results they want from Bob Mueller?

What are people like Robert De Niro going to do if by chance the jury finds Trump not guilty?

Out of curiosity why is it that the defense had to present their closing arguments first and the prosecution presents their arguments lastly? Obviously the last words that the jurors hear will have a more lasting impression on their minds.

Prosecution goes first.  Defense goes second.  Prosecution goes third.  If they opened with the defense, then the Prosecution waived the first argument, relying only on the rebuttal.

As a former president, Donald Trump is entitled to Secret Service protection for his entire life even if he is sentenced to jail.

"Behind bars, corrections officers would in turn be responsible for protecting those agents assigned to Trump," CBS reported.

CBS predicts that Trump could serve time at Rikers Island Jail Complex.

I would love to be one of those Secret Service agents.  Getting to share a jail cell with Trump?  And think of the overtime!  That would be so cool.

McCarthy and Gowdy inside court: Prosecution describing 'additional crime' without evidence

Steinglass is now proving another potential “other crime” — tax fraud.

So it's OK to introduce new charges during closing arguments with zero evidence, but not OK to mention sentencing for the original charges (again with zero evidence)?

And now it all makes sense.  This isn't Joe Biden.  This is Hillary Clinton seeking vindication that she would have been the true winner in 2016 had not Donald Trump cheated.
