Biden Admin Targets Lightbulbs In Latest Appliance Crackdown
Story by Nick Pope - DCNF • 16h •

The Biden administration finalized energy efficiency regulations targeting light bulbs on Friday.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced the final rules for “general services lamps,” a category of products that includes light bulbs, to nudge the market to adopt more energy efficient models.

The Biden administration, led chiefly by the DOE, has pushed similar regulations targeting a host of household appliances.

“Making common household appliances more efficient is one of the most effective ways to slash energy costs and cut harmful carbon emissions,” Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said of the regulation. “Under President Biden and as directed by Congress, DOE is following the lead of lightbulb manufacturers, helping American families flip the switch on massive energy savings through strengthened energy efficiency standards.”

The standards finalized Friday will apply to newly-produced lightbulbs starting in 2028, according to the DOE.

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

Brandon targeting lightbulbs is the least of our worries.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

So I guess "Lightbulb" Fred Upton's destruction of the incandescent light bulb industry and forced adoption of CFLs wasn't enough for the Biden regime?

Flashback:

Upton to revisit light bulb ban

Hoping to counter attacks from his right, Rep. Fred Upton is promising to reexamine a controversial ban on incandescent light bulbs if he becomes chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The Michigan Republican told POLITICO on Thursday that he’s not afraid to go back after an issue he once supported but that has come under withering assault on the conservative airwaves, including on Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck’s talk shows.

“If I become chairman, we’ll be reexamining the light bulb issue, no problem,” Upton said.

Upton’s bid to be the next Energy and Commerce Committee leader has been rocked by allegations that he’s too moderate for the post.

Beck called him “all socialist” for cosponsoring legislation phasing out incandescent light bulbs that made it into a 2007 energy law signed by President George W. Bush.

General Electric plans to close bulb-assembly factory

General Electric Co., founded by inventor Thomas Edison, plans to close its last U.S. factory that makes common household incandescent light bulbs as demand rises for more energy-efficient lighting.

GE intends to close the bulb-assembly factory that employs 203 people in Winchester, Va., by July 2010, as well as a related glass factory with 125 employees in Lexington, Ky., the company said in a statement. A 109-worker plant in Niles, Ohio, that makes glass for spotlights also is slated to close.

A plant in Bridgeville that makes glass products for incandescent and fluorescent lighting products won't be affected by the cutbacks, said GE spokeswoman Janice Fraser.

The Winchester factory is GE's last in the country to make common household bulbs, GE spokeswoman Deborah Wexler said in an interview. Workers will have 60 days to try to come up with cost savings that may save the plants. Fairfield, Conn.-based GE will keep making common bulbs outside the United States, she said.

"The market for incandescent light bulbs has declined by 50 percent in the past five years," Wexler said. "Consumers have moved towards energy efficient light bulbs, and with governments around the world setting lighting efficiency standards, these will be legislated out of existence."

What's funny in that is that the market is replacing the bulbs on its own. New houses commonly provide for low-voltage LED lighting where incandescent lights once were king. Overhead lighting is now nearly exclusively puck lights, indirect lighting, accent lighting, night lights.... all now low voltage. Outdoor lighting is also nearly exclusively LED - In all cases because they are BETTER in the application than the incandescent lights.

The same can be said for work lights - almost *ALL* jobsite ad portable lights, and certainly automotive service lights... When's the last time you saw a halo flood light? A corded trouble light? They're dang near gone. And all that WITHOUT regulatory insistence. The new stuff is just better.

THAT's how you do it.
