 Democrat wins Alabama special election after focusing on IVF, abortion

Democratic candidate Marilyn Lands is projected to win the special election in Alabama state House District 10, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Lands, a licensed professional counselor, beat Republican Teddy Powell, a Madison City Council member, to fill the seat. The spot was vacated after former Rep. David Cole (R) pleaded guilty last year to voter fraud.

The Huntsville-area race was closely watched because Lands leaned into the issues of abortion and in vitro fertilization (IVF) in a special election that came one month after the state saw IVF services temporarily paused after a state Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos were children.

Fishrrman:
The "abortion wars" are all-but over in America.

What began with Roe ended with Dobbs.

But... things didn't "end" as everyone thought they would.

The previously-unforeseen results of that end are still being discovered... mostly in ballot boxes.

Don't let them fool you.  This race had nothing to do with abortion.  The Republican barely won this race in 2022 before it was discovered he falsified residency status, committed voter fraud, and lied about it to voters for months.  He finally resigned his seat and pled guilty to a felony.

Also, Huntsville has gotten a lot of implants from California, Northern Virginia, and other places 'up North'.  So it is no surprise that the Democrat won considering the background and the demographics.  But this was not a referendum on abortion, as much as the left wants to push that narrative.

@Hoodat

Strange that the legacy media is leaving that part out

Hoodat:
The NoVa implants are especially irritating.  They've started in Maryland, ruined that State, moved to greener pastures across the Potomac, ruined that State.  And now they are moving to North Alabama with their government jobs, attracted to the low cost of living, good wages, great schools.   And they're already voting to turn Huntsville into Bethesda.
