Trump says he will free Jan. 6 rioters on first day if re-elected
More than 1,350 people have been charged for crimes related to the breach of the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021

Former President Donald Trump has vowed that one of his first acts if re-elected to office will be to free those imprisoned in relation to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, whom he labeled as "hostages."

"My first acts as your next President will be to Close the Border, DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and Free the January 6 Hostages being wrongfully imprisoned!" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social late Monday.

More than 1,350 people have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, according to the DOJ, after rioters stormed the building to protest former President Trump’s election loss and the validity of Biden’s win.

Of those, at least 560 defendants received sentences while at least 335 were sentenced to periods of incarceration, the DOJ said in a January update.

Nearly 490 individuals were charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony, according to the latest Dept. of Justice figures. The investigation remains ongoing.

Trump’s vow to free the prisoners comes as a new report detailing a "hidden transcript" claims that the Jan. 6 congressional committee allegedly falsely claimed it did not have evidence that showed former President Trump’s administration requested National Guard assistance.

Free them and issue a blanket pardon for all who participated in that "event".
Wipe their records clean.
(even for those who were in fact guilty of misbehavior)

It's the only way to make it clear that such types of political prosecutions will not be allowed.

(don't say it can't be done, what did Carter do for the draft dodgers...?)

What about those who were violent toward the police officers and injured some during the protest? Should that be "forgiven" in the context of the heat of the moment?  Lots of questions would arise from any "blanket pardon."

Commutation of sentences might be more appropriate for those who were violent.

I’m also against a blanket pardon. But the punishment should fit the crime

A blanket pardon is going to let a few of the "truly guilty" off.
There's no doubt about that.

But I'm going to say it again:
A blanket pardon is THE ONLY WAY to "send 'em a message" that these kind of politically-based prosecutions cannot be permitted in America.

It's got to be quick, clean, and... TOTAL.

The message to the left must be simple... NO.

The message a blanket pardon sends is that it's stupid to be a Capitol Police officer.

The message a blanket pardon sends is that it's stupid to be a Capitol Police officer.

It also further advanced the notion that breaking the law has no consequences

This is the same thing that’s going on in the inner cities

Sure, he will. Just like he promised to fire Fauci after the election only to give him an award on his way out the door.

Just another lie on a pile of ten thousand other lies.

Trump is the quintessential salesman.  He knows exactly what to say so that his targeted audience believes "he understands us", and he knows all they'll remember afterwards is how he made them feel when he spoke, not what he actually did.

Note the verbiage: "rioters" not "protesters" which most simply were.

The former term is more prejudicial and in lockstep with the J6 Dem/Media narrative.

Fox is not Trump's friend-nor the friend of those who protested.

If fairness, the overwhelming majority of people who went there and only protested haven't been arrested.

Also note how many news stories insist, whenever the topic of the actual election comes up and anyone questions its integrity, we do so "falsely" and that "there is no evidence the 2020 election was stolen." As if it's an established, unquestionable fact that the 2020 election was just like any other.

Heck, a year of our LIVES were stolen, and yet the election wasn't?

I'll bring up one point....  How many BLM/Antifa rioters are still in jail?

Work from there.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

But those were described (backlit by flames) as "mostly peaceful protests".
