PALM BEACH, Fla. – The transcripts of a 2006 grand jury that investigated Jeffrey Epstein‘s sexual assaults of underage girls will be released to the public under a bill that was signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday morning after it was unanimously passed by the Legislature.

The bill will take effect July 1, but DeSantis said it’s possible the grand jury transcripts could be released before then.

“I think the Legislature and I agree that there needs to be a mechanism in some of these rare circumstances where people can get the truth and where we can try to pursue justice,” DeSantis said. “We’re happy in Florida to be leading the effort for transparency and for accountability, because what happened was clearly wrong and the punishment was simply wholly inadequate to the crime.”
