The Biden Pentagon is denying it is at war with the Iran-backed Houthi forces, even as President Joe Biden submits notifications to Congress of military action required by the War Powers Resolution.

On January 18, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh was pressed by reporters if another round of U.S. military strikes against Houthi forces in Yemen meant that the U.S. was now at war with the Houthis. She, responded:

    We are not at war with the Houthis. In terms of a definition, I think that would be more of a clear declaration from the United States.

However, Biden has submitted at least two notifications to Congress under the War Powers Resolution, which sets out the president’s reporting responsibilities on committing U.S. forces into hostilities “in the absence of a declaration of war.”

On Wednesday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) stated that the Biden administration “is saying that they don’t expect the Houthis to stop” launching attacks despite strikes by the U.S. and the “only thing” that has actually worked to get the Houthis to stop launching attacks is a deal where Israel frees Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of hostages.

Kaine said, “It’s clearly not going to stop. You see the U.S. taking action with allies against the Houthis and then the Houthis responding in kind. And the administration is saying that they don’t expect the Houthis to stop. The only thing that has stopped the Houthis recently has been a hostage release deal. So, when we got the hostage release deal a month or so ago, where hostages were released by Hamas, Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel, and then there was a pause in hostilities to get humanitarian aid to Gazans, the Houthis stopped. That’s the only thing that’s shown there to be de-escalation, which is why I’m also upping my calls again, let’s focus on the lynchpin of this whole thing, which is hostages, let’s really engage with the Israelis, the Qataris, the Egyptians, and everybody to get hostages released. If we do that, it’s likely to come accompanied with a pause in hostilities so we can get more humanitarian aid to suffering Gazans. That will also probably stop the Houthis.”

This crap won't stop until the West cuts the legs out from under Iran.

If the E.U. or the U.N won't contribute to the defense of the Freedom of Navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Yemen, then, the US Navy should withdraw from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Yemen.

America is not the World Police, and much of that traffic is neither originating in the US nor destined for the US.

Let the Europeans and Chi-coms defend their own trade routes; or, have a United Nations coalition defend the Freedom of Navigation in that part of the World.

In the meantime, the US and British navies should establish a presence on the staregically located Yemeni island of Socotra before the Chi-coms do.

 

Surely, some Somali pirates are available for the U.N. to hire.

Iran is claiming it had nothing to do with an attack on a U.S. outpost in Jordan that killed three U.S. servicemembers on Sunday, and warned that more U.S. strikes on Syria and Iraq will only add to instability in the region, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Monday.

On Sunday, President Joe Biden blamed Iran for the attack on Tower 22, on the Syria-Iraq border, and vowed a response. It was the first deadly strike on U.S. forces in the region since the outbreak of war between Hamas and Israel on Oct. 7.

A Tehran-funded and armed group called the Iraqi Islamic Resistance claimed responsibility for the attack.

US continues strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen

The United States military continued strikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on Friday while conducting retaliatory airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Saturday.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. local time on Friday, the USS Carney engaged and shot down one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Gulf of Arden, CENTCOM said. No injuries or damage were reported.

Hours later at 4:40 p.m., U.S. forces conducted strikes against four Houthi UAVs that were prepared to launch, officials said.

"U.S. forces identified the UAVs in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined that they presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and the U.S. Navy ships in the region. U.S. forces subsequently struck and destroyed the UAVs in self-defense," CENTCOM said in a statement.

Then at 9:20 p.m., the USS Laboon and F/A-18s from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group engaged and shot down seven UAVs over the Red Sea. There were no injuries reported.

"These actions will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant vessels," CENTCOM said.

The U.S. and United Kingdom struck deeply hardened targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen on Saturday in response to the rebel group’s increasingly dangerous attacks on international shipping and naval vessels, according to statements.

The strikes targeted Houthi storage facilities, missile systems and launchers, air defense systems and radars in the third large-scale joint operation since the Houthis began attacking international shipping in late November, according to an emailed joint statement from the U.S., U.K. and supporting countries. Since the last joint strikes on Jan. 11 and Jan. 22, the Houthis have continued to conduct dangerous missile and drone attacks against ships in the Red Sea, including setting a fuel tanker on fire for hours in the most severe incident to date.

“These strikes are intended to further disrupt and degrade the capabilities of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia to conduct their reckless and destabilizing attacks against U.S. and international vessels lawfully transiting the Red Sea,” Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in an emailed statement.

A spokesman for the Iran-backed group vowed to continue its campaign of disrupting regional trade "no matter the sacrifices it costs us." The U.S. and U.K. launched a series of attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen this weekend in reaction to a lethal drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan last week.

"The US-British coalition’s bombing of a number of Yemeni provinces will not change our position, and we affirm that our military operations against Israel will continue until the crimes of genocide in Gaza are stopped and the siege on its residents is lifted, no matter the sacrifices it costs us," Houthi spokesman Mohammed al-Bukhaiti wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Our war is moral, and if we had not intervened to support the oppressed in Gaza, humanity would not have existed among humans. The American-British aggression against Yemen will not go unanswered, and we will meet escalation with escalation," he added.
