Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar Post Now-Deleted Tweets That Show A Lack Of Understanding About Meaning Of Memorial DayJohn SimmonsMay 27, 2024 3:09 PM EDT
https://www.outkick.com/culture/cori-bush-ilhan-omar-x-posts-memorial-dayWe all know that today is Memorial Day, the day that we set aside to honor the men and women who have died in service to our country.Apparently, Democrat representatives Cori Bush and Ilhan Omar – or their staffs – don't know the distinction between this holiday and Veterans Day. This morning, the official X account for Bush (not her personal account) sent out a tweet that attempted to honor any soldier who gave their lives for America. I say "attempted," because their effort wildly missed the mark.Read: Six Heroes Every American Needs To Know For Memorial DayIt started off by acknowledging those who have died in the line of duty (a good start), but then it pivoted to advocating for government-funded benefits for these soldiers. This tweet has since been deleted, and with good reason. Not to sound morbid, but you can’t give benefits to people that have died. Evidently, whoever's posting to Bush’s X account forgot that before pressing "post."Not wanting to miss out on the chance to make the same mistake, Omar's official X account posted something very similar a few minutes later. The post also advocated for dead soldiers to receive benefits, which, again, doesn’t make any sense.
