President Joe Biden is staring down the worst immigration crisis in the history of the United States, a politically fraught situation that could have major ramifications on the 2024 general election.

Following his 2020 general election victory, Biden vowed to "restore humanity and American values to our immigration system," but a record number of border encounters in December, stacked on top of a gradually worsening overall trend across his three years in office, has sent the president scrambling to reach a deal with Republican lawmakers.

December saw the most-ever migrants encountered by border officials in a single day, 14,509 on Dec. 18 alone. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that, as of Dec. 29, the U.S. had recorded 276,000 migrant encounters for the final month of 2023, surpassing the record for most in a single month recorded in September 2023.

CBS similarly reported Sunday, New Year's Eve, that the total number of migrant encounters for December would surpass 300,000, according to internal government data obtained by the network.

The GOP should be working relentlessly towards border security -- they have the majority in the House.  It didn't help matters that McCarthy was in charge.

That is true. But Joe Biden - along with his Democrat Party allies - created this crisis, and did so intentionally.

Why have Republicans not done anything substantive to address this issue?

Three reasons.

One, is that they do not have any real power in Washington, D.C., where the U.S. Senate and every single branch of the administrative bureaucracy of the Executive Branch are controlled by Democrats.

The second is that Republicans are a famously fractious and quarrelsome bunch, as compared to their lockstep, marchant d'un même pas Democrat opposition.

But the last, and perhaps most impactful reason is that a significant number of elected GOP congressmen owe their financial (and thus electoral) fortunes to corporate interests, many of whom have proven over time that they value cheap labor above the security of our borders.

Of course this has been done intentionally by Biden & cronies.  However, the promise to secure the border and build a wall has been going on since the Secure Fence Act 0f 2006, approved by both parties. Both sides have their hands in the cookie jar making money off of this invasion and prior crossings. Unfortunately it has cost us our country.  Shame on them.

Biden is intentionally causing the worst border crisis ever.  He doesn't want GOP help.

Golden Rule:  He who has the gold makes the rules.

Why should the House approve more foreign aid while the Biden admin is neglecting the Homefront?

Secure America's borders before paying to secure Israel's and Ukraine's borders.

If Biden wants more money from GOP House, Biden needs to secure the border yesterday - with or without immigration reform.  Just enforce the existing immigration laws; deport illegal migrants; asylum recipients cannot enter US until their cases have been adjudicated and their assylum has been approved.

What is the logic behind Biden admin's support of illegal immigration?  Cheap labor?  More Dem voters?  Re-populate Blue States that are losing residents to Red States?  Re-patriate the American Southwest and Texas back to Mexico?

Why does Biden want illegal immigrants to flood America, and overwhelm state and municipal governments?  Do they want to use Federal funding as leverage to expand Federal powers over the States?

If GOP House stands firm, White House and Senate will budge.

The GOP should be working relentlessly towards border security -- they have the majority in the House.  It didn't help matters that McCarthy was in charge.

McCarthy had a border bill paired with the 8% cut CR, and the Senate Republicans backed it.

Then the House "conservatives" killed it.  So instead we got no border bill, no cuts, and we still got a CR.  That's us playing tic tac toe while the Dems are playing chess.

Right. He is making enough of a mess of things without any help.

If the GOP wanted to o something about it, they would have started howling on day one.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
