A virtual meeting on Monday between US and Israeli officials to discuss a potential IDF ground operation in Rafah was reportedly marked by tensions and accusations as Washington expressed deep skepticism over Israeli plans to operate in the southernmost Gaza city.

The two-hour video call between US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the American side and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi on the Israeli side was extremely “difficult,” a Tuesday Channel 12 report claimed, stating that it showed the US and Israel are on “completely different pages” when it comes to Israel’s planned operation in Rafah where Jerusalem says four Hamas battalions remain.

The US representatives expressed deep concern about the threat of famine in Gaza and were highly critical of the IDF’s plans for Rafah, saying its evacuation proposal for the million-plus noncombatants in the city was unimpressive and not implementable.

Offering Hebrew translations of the alleged English conversation, Channel 12 reported that Sullivan told the group: “You’re going to be responsible for the third famine crisis of the 21st century. That is not something we can accept as partners.

Blinken was said to tell Dermer and Hanegbi that “according to the pace of your operations, it will take you four months to evacuate Rafah.”

The Israeli officials were quoted as not having anything to say regarding the US critiques other than reiterating their belief that Hamas cannot be dismantled without the IDF going into Rafah.

Essentially, Channel 12 summed up, the US representatives on the call made clear that if Israel wants any kind of American green light for an operation in Rafah, it needs to provide a viable “day after” plan for the post-war management of Gaza along with a credible evacuation plan for Rafah.

Israel acknowledges killing 7 aid charity workers in ‘tragic, unintentional’ airstrike

Facing searing criticism on Tuesday, Israel acknowledged mistakenly carrying out an airstrike that killed seven staff members of a US-based charity group who were unloading food brought by sea to the war-torn Gaza Strip.

The group World Central Kitchen said it was pausing operations after a “targeted Israeli strike” at around midnight between Monday and Tuesday killed three British and four other staffers — an Australian, a Palestinian, a Pole and a US-Canadian.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged a “tragic” and “unintentional” incident and vowed to “do everything” to prevent a recurrence.

A Haaretz report on Tuesday afternoon said the IAF had fired three missiles in quick succession at three vehicles.

The aid group said the team had been traveling in a “de-conflicted” area in a convoy of “two armored cars branded with the WCK logo and a soft skin vehicle” at the time of the strike.

“Despite coordinating movements with the (Israeli army), the convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza on the maritime route,” it said.

The three vehicles were targeted over a distance of around 2 kilometers.

According to a report by the Haaretz daily, a Hermes 450 UAV fired three missiles at the convoy in quick succession despite the vehicles being clearly marked on their roof as being part of WCK. The decision was made by a unit guarding the aid transport route after troops earlier spotted what appeared to be an armed figure riding on a truck that entered an aid storage area with three WCK cars. The attack occurred moments after the three cars left the storage area, leaving the truck and the armed figure behind, according to the report.

After a missile hit one car, those inside evacuated to the other two cars, and managed to report they had been attacked before a second missile hit another car. As the last unharmed car approached to evacuate the wounded, a third missile hit. All seven people who had been in the vehicles were killed, Haaretz reported.

An initial IDF probe into the incident was expected to be released to the public in the coming days, as the General Staff Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism carries out a more in-depth investigation.

The U.S. told Iran that it “had no involvement” or advanced knowledge of an Israeli strike on a diplomatic compound in Syria that killed a senior Iranian general, according to a U.S. official.

The rare message shows the Biden administration is deeply concerned that the Israeli strike could lead to a regional escalation and the resumption of attacks by pro-Iranian militias against U.S. forces.

Israel notified the Biden administration a few minutes before its air force conducted the strike but didn’t ask for a U.S. green light, Israeli and U.S. officials said.

A U.S. official said the Israeli heads-up wasn’t detailed and arrived when the military jets were already in the air. The Israelis didn’t tell the U.S., for example, that they were planning to bomb a building in the Iranian embassy compound.

The strike took place shortly before White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Blinken started a secure video conference call with top Israeli officials to discuss alternatives to an Israeli ground invasion in Rafah.

The vehicle was completely destroyed by the explosion/fire.  The tires disintegrated...the interior seats...he dashboard.

...all except TWO completely white signs with the logo of the World Central Kitchen were inside with charred edges. and another unscathed in the burnt out to-a-crisp trunk interior.

Not denying they were killed, but the photos were definitely STAGED.

One grisly date to keep in mind: July 7, nine months after the horror of Oct. 7. If still alive and not aborted by their captives, that is about when pregnant hostages, raped by Hamas animals, will give birth. Got to figure Hamas's p.r. won't allow release of pregnant women.

The Israel Defense Forces decided to fire and reprimand some of the officers involved in the devastating airstrikes that killed seven aid workers in Gaza following the military’s investigation.

The brigade fire support commander will be released from his position, as will the brigade chief of staff, while the brigade commander, the 162nd Division commander, and the commander of Southern Command will be reprimanded. The military announced its findings on Friday.

On Monday, Israeli forces carried out multiple strikes on a convoy of vehicles carrying aid workers with the World Central Kitchen. The strikes were approved and launched despite WCK’s efforts to ensure their safety by coordinating their travel with the IDF.

Investigators concluded the strikes “should not have occurred” and that the military personnel who approved the strikes “were convinced that they were targeting armed Hamas operatives and not WCK employees.”

Israeli forces identified a gunman on one of the aid trucks as it left the warehouse where they unloaded aid, per investigators.

BREAKING: Israel Fires Two Senior Officers in Wake of Drone Attack on World Central Kitchen Volunteers

    An internal Israeli military inquiry found that the drone team who killed them made an "operational misjudgment of the situation."

    It said the team had spotted a suspected Hamas gunman shooting from the top of one of the aid trucks they were escorting. The brigade officers who ordered the strikes, a colonel and a major, were dismissed, while senior commanders were also formally reprimanded.

    "The strike on the aid vehicles is a grave mistake stemming from a serious failure due to a mistaken identification, errors in decision-making, and an attack contrary to the Standard Operating Procedures," the military said in a statement on Friday.

    The three aid workers' vehicles had been emblazoned with large WCK logos. However, retired Israeli general Yoav Har-Even, who is leading the investigation, said the drone's camera could not see them because it was dark. "This was a key factor in the chain of events," he said.

The body of a hostage held in Gaza has been recovered, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Saturday.

“The body of hostage Elad Katzir was rescued by security forces overnight from Khan Yunis and returned to Israeli territory,” the IDF said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Katzir was taken on Oct. 7, the same day Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas mounted an attack on Israel, and the war in Gaza began.

“Elad Katzir was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization during the October 7 Massacre,” the post continued. “His mother, Hanna, was also abducted by IJ and released on November 24, and his father, Avraham, was murdered in the kibbutz. According to intelligence, Elad was murdered by IJ in captivity.”

The announcement comes more than a week after the U.N. Security Council passed its first resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, with the U.S. abstaining.

Netanyahu: The Date Is Set for Attack on Hamas in Rafah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that the date had been set for an Israeli military operation in the city of Rafah, near Gaza’s border with Egypt, to attack the last remaining Hamas battalions and destroy them.

Netanyahu spoke as Israeli negotiators were in Cairo, Egypt, in the hope of striking a deal with Hamas via Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediators to see some of the remaining 133 Israeli hostages released, some of whom are dead.

In a statement posted online, and translated and released by Israel’s Government Press Office, Netanyahu said:

“Today I received a detailed report on the talks in Cairo. We are working constantly to attain our objectives, first and foremost the release of all of our hostages and the achieving of total victory over Hamas. “This victory requires entering Rafah and eliminating the terrorist battalions there. This will happen; there is a date.”
