ATF Director Steven Dettelbach Says Banning ‘Assault Weapons’ on His Wish List

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) director Steven Dettelbach told Harvard Magazine one of his wish list items is a renewed ban on “assault weapons.”

Harvard Magazine published statements made by Dettelbach at Harvard Kennedy School as he was being interviewed by Caroline Light, the “director and senior lecturer in undergraduate studies of women, sexuality, and gender.”

At one point during the interview the audience was allowed to ask questions and someone asked him to name gun controls that are on his “wish list.”

Dettelbach listed universal background checks and reviving the 1994-2004 federal “assault weapons” ban.

18 U.S.C. § 242

This provision makes it a crime for someone acting under color of law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241 - Conspiracy Against Rights

It further makes it unlawful for two or more persons to go in disguise on the highway or on the premises of another with the intent to prevent or hinder his/her free exercise or enjoyment of any rights so secured.

Does 'battle rattle' qualify as a disguise?



While these provisions have been applied elsewhere, they may apply to the federally protected, enumerated, Constitutional Right to keep and bear arms.
