Trump shifts to attacking Nikki Haley after debates: 'Birdbrain'
by Julia Johnson, Politics Reporter

Former President Donald Trump shifted his line of attack to focus on former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, one of his Republican primary opponents in 2024, in a number of posts to Truth Social as she rises in the polls.

Trump, who leads his opponents by double digits and boasts the support of more than half of likely Republican primary voters, has mostly limited his criticisms to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who initially showed donors the most promise in challenging him for the nomination. But now, as DeSantis struggles to recoup support in the polls and Haley is on the upswing following powerful debate performances, the former president appears to be switching targets.

"MAGA, or I, will never go for Birdbrain Nikki Haley. No loyalty, plenty of lies!" Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday. "'I will never run against our great President,' she said, 'he has done an outstanding job.' To which I responded,'How nice of you to say, Nikki,' knowing full well that her words mean nothing. She even came to Mar-a-Lago with her family, 'bearing gifts.' Anyway, Birdbrain doesn’t have the TALENT or TEMPERAMENT to do the job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

He further shared a video of Haley from 2021, prior to her entrance to the race, when she told reporters that she wouldn't run for president if Trump did.

He'd be stomping on people of color and he desperately needs their votes.

What a schmuck.  He's hellbent on turning off as many voters as possible.  The 5-7% of GOP voters backing Haley certainly won't be jumping on board with Trump after these asinine statements.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

If they're stupid enough to back Haley, they certainly can be Trump Voters.

He wasn't too chickenshit to attack Ben Carson and tell awful lies about him in the 2016 campaign, and we know Trump hasn't changed his style one damn bit...or gotten any smarter.

Trump on Carson’s experience

“I think Ben just doesn’t have the experience. It’s not his thing, you know you’re born with it. It’s not his thing. He doesn’t have the temperament for it.”

Trump on Carson’s energy

“Ben Carson is a very low energy person, actually, I think Ben Carson is even lower energy than Jeb [Bush], if you want to know the truth. We need strong energy.”

Trump on Carson’s temper

“I’m not saying it. He actually said ‘pathological temper,’ and then he defined it as disease. … If you’re pathological, there’s no cure for that, folks. If you’re a child molester, a sick puppy, there’s no cure for that. There’s only one cure. We don’t wanna talk about that cure.”

I’m actually very curious about this.  Partly because I never heard about Trump making denigrating remarks about Carson, and partly because I have a personal connection to Carson.

All I recall on TOS was pix posted proving Trump hung around with Carson backstage at a debate while Jeb seemed to snub them.  The implication being Carson was ignored by other candidates and Trump was palsy with him.

That’s 1 thing I’ll give Trump.  Ben Carson was one of his few decent picks and Carson stuck with him.  If Carson can put up with this, perhaps there is something there.

(BTW, those remarks are minor compared to the childish insults Don regularly hurls.)
Common sense is an uncommon virtue.

Uncouth.
Trump would rebut 'Not true, I have the best couth, a ton of couth, the best couth money can buy, my couth is gold plated and your just jealous'

Not actually on topic but I came across this while tooling around, here is Orange Man in 2016 on abortion.

Do you believe in punishment for abortion – yes or no – as a principle?”

“The answer is there has to be some form of punishment.”

“For the woman?”

“Yeah, there has to be some form.”

MSNBC, 30/3/16

Our devolving conservative **nononono* from no way and punishment to:

The new host of “Meet the Press,” Kristen Welker, asked Trump whether he’d sign federal legislation that would ban abortion at 15 weeks, a limit that antiabortion groups and some lawmakers have rallied behind.

Trump said no, and said he’d seek to negotiate with Democrats on the issue.

Won't commit to 15 weeks, no, he says he wants to negotiate with democrats on how many babies are killed. He's not a conservative, he's not an outsider, he's a politician who sets aside what he said he believed just so that he might get democrat votes.

Those responses are deliberately vague, and meaningless.  "I'd seek to negotiate with Democrats".  Okay, well, duh.  But what would be the goal of your negotiations?  What is the result you'd hope to achieve?  That's what people want to know, and of course he doesn't want to answer that because he's worried that answering it truthfully might cost him votes.  It's classic political cowardice.  Same thing with his promise to end the war in Ukraine.  He doesn't want to say what he'd be pushing for because he knows it might lose him votes.

The only issues on which he is willing to be straightforward are those where he knows he won't alienate any of his base.  Otherwise, he's as swampy and dishonest as the come.
