I'm finishing this in preparation for the Debate.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Watched about 30 min. Couldn't take anymore talking over each other. FOX needed to be able to turn off mics.

I guess we better hope that Biden stays for 2024 and finishes his second term.

Maybe in 2028 we’ll have a shot. Because if it’s another Democrat in 2024, that person will be able to serve two terms

Trump will be the nominee. The combination of MAGAs along with their leftists allies will see to it. And after another loss, hopefully some eyes will be opened
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

None of those candidates on stage have any chance of breaking the cult like grip Trump has on many of his supporters. They’re convinced they’re on a quest to “Save America” with  Trump in front. You know, the same way he was with the Jan 6th rioters after telling them he’ll march with them down to the Capitol…oh wait..lol

They’ve also insulated themselves from the outside world were their movement is toxic to voters and they’ve continued and are continuing to lose elections despite the condition of the country under Democrat dominance

This is why I didn't watch. When they do something more closely resembling an actual debate, with each participant getting the exact same amount of time to answer the same exact question - no talking over one another - let me know.

Either way, Trump supporters win because they will continue to get the $3 trillion deficits that they love.

If it must be, I would rather have Biden or a Democrat in the WH with TEA Party type Republicans in Congress. If people like Rand Paul try to put the stop to the Trump checks to his supporters, they'll primary him with the help of their left wing allies

I watched Steven Crowder's livestream of the event over on Mug Club. It was especially entertaining after the debate ended and Crowder, I think a bit tipsy from the drinking game they were doing, started speaking exclusively in an exaggerated Indian accent.

As for the performance of the candidates in the debate, I think several of them made a good argument for being named Chief Chair Re-Arranger on the deck of the Titanic.  :pop41:

Agree too.  Trump's crossed the Rubicon and jumped feet first into that rabbit hole of socialist giveaways.

Trump has at least spoken a 100,000 words on his campaign stumps, and has said ZERO about his contribution to the national debt.

It would be much harder for congressional Republicans to oppose Trump’s giveaways than Biden’s without incurring the wrath of his supporters

Deficits are exploding again under Biden. We hit the $33 trillion mark on our national debt. The consequences for our currency are potentially catastrophic as a result.

But have you noticed that Trump and his supporters are awfully quiet about that?

Except when another Republican proposes things like entitlement reform to help bring the deficit under control, in which case they can't stop trashing that Republican and demagoguing the issue.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”

So then it's already been determined we'll have a Joe/Trump rematch.  Gee, I wonder who will win this time?  *hmmmm*
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Except when another Republican proposes things like entitlement reform to help bring the deficit under control, in which case they can't stop trashing that Republican and demagoguing the issue.

Yup

Deficits are approaching the 2 trillion price tag under Biden. Normally, the opposition party would salivate at the opportunity to hit the other party relentlessly over deficits like that. It’s low hanging fruit. Even BHO went after GWB over the debt and deficits. Our current path is absolutely unsustainable.

But Trump and his MAGAs are disinterested. Why?

Well, part of the reason is it would focus attention on his own fiscal mismanagement

The other dirty little secret is they want those big deficits spent on them should they win

And this line explains Trump’s debate hesitancy:

He should be on this stage tonight," said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is attempting to establish himself as the leading Trump alternative despite recent struggles to break out from the rest of the pack. "He owes it to you to defend his record where they added $7.8 trillion to the debt. That set the stage for the inflation we have now."

And RDS is right. But Trump would rather just come up with silly nicknames to entertain his base and moderators would rather ask questions about voting candidates off of islands

Trump got lucky in his first term. He didn’t inherit an economy in freefall and inflation was relatively low. He could tweak a regulation here and there to give the economy a little boost. 2024 will be different.
