Why is America so broke?
By Jack Hellner

The public is constantly told that when Congress passes new spending programs, they will be paid for… yet the U.S. is over $32 trillion in debt, not counting unfunded liabilities like Social Security, Medicare, and federal employee benefits.

When Democrats passed Obamacare, they said it would substantially lower premiums and it would reduce the deficit; instead, premiums skyrocketed, so the subsidies and other costs had to skyrocket.

One way Democrats pretended that they would be able to pay for Obamacare without the taxpayer feeling it was that they said the government would make money if they took over student loans. They lied. The government is losing lots of our money on student loans:

From 1997 to 2021, the Education Department estimated that payments from federal direct student loans would generate $114 billion for the government. But the GAO found that, as of 2021, the program has actually cost the government an estimated $197 billion.

Liberals don't believe in math, let alone finance and economics.  They need to be kept away from taxpayers' money.

When Dems say "paid for", they mean, with imginary money (aka "projections") from the future.

The sane response would be decreased Government spending, but GOP abandoned fiscal conservatism during Bush '43.

In a sane world, ballooning interest payments on the Debt, would force spending cuts.

Fiscal sanity has left the building.

My suspicion is DC will come after accumulated savings (aka "wealth") and assets.

Biden has already placed a FICO tax on mortgage applicants with good FICO scores.

Massachusetts already has a "millionaire tax" on home sales.

DC will raid our IRA's and 401K's.  They will electronically covet any personal wealth that exists inside the Federal Reserve Banking system.

Look what Canada did to the bank accounts of protesting truckers in Canada.  A precedent has been set.

Let's not forget that the biggest spending administration was Republican one.

EVERYBODY in government abandoned fiscal conservatism about 30 seconds after Nixon took us off the gold standard.

Dims buying votes with money stolen from taxpayers as well as banking it for themselves in off-shore accounts.

That money SHOULD have been used to help create jobs, not buy votes.

GWB's "Compassionate Conservative"..... remember?

Being a 'Mayor of Realville' there are now a significant number of American voters who weren't alive when the Towers went down on Sept 11, 2001.

Like Hiroshima/Nagasaki is to many of us here on the forum.

They're voters now...raised on Green Energy.  Oil bad.  Oil companies bad.
They've also been subject to Barack Obama's POV that the United States became a world power on the backs of minorities and the poorer nations.

IOW...you cannot install the 'CURE' for deficit spending over a six-year voting cycle (Congress/POTUS) and still win elections.  Not with an adversarial media.  And certainly not with Social Media platforms which didn't even exist during 9-11.

We're the distinct minority.

The above-reference voters aren't even aware how much their own lives have been affected since the 'birth' of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
They really couldn't care less.

I didn't read the article -- just answering the question.

BIDENOMICS
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I apologize, @Bigun

Was merely adding ANOTHER reason why, now, it's too late to turn this ship around.

We probably constitute 25% of the electorate, when they successfully sneak in "AMNESTY"...like they did earlier this week on another signed bill.

We're done!  Compassionate Conservatism needs a new label.

Conservatism is associated with interfering with a woman's right to choose to become a mother or not.
In a "ME..ME..ME..culture, you're not going to win many hearts {votes}.

Adapt to the Field of Battle. Get "Conservatism" and put it in the trunk.

It's REPUBLICAN CONSTITUTIONALISTS v DEMOCRAT FASCISTS/SOCIALISTS

THAT'S the new baseline.

@DCPatriot

Of course I will - Among other things... You act as if that fiscal damage can be blithely waived away. It cannot. It has incurred horrendous damage, as has his destruction of libertarian liberties, right before our eyes.

Two things about that:

First is cohesive coalition on the Right. About 30% (last it was measured) of the Republican base is fiscal and libertarian Conservatives. Do you really think those conservatives are going to vote for your guy when they not only have been stripped naked and thrown under the bus, but then the damn bus stopped, backed up to run them over, and then ran them over again going forward...

You expect them to vote for you guys now? After that? I ain't the only one. There's a reason why Tumpy can't gather that cream and remains against a 60% ceiling among Republicans.

You're stepping on the very things that are supposed to hold us together.

Secondly, that big money IS the swamp. You ain't draining a single damn thing when government grows MORE under your watch. And not just MORE. HISTORIC DAMN MORE. So the entire premise (and promise) that he is draining the swamp is entirely bullshit. His single claim to fame is utterly  false.

But you want me to vote for it anyway, presumably so that government can continue to grow exponentially under Republican care.

Not just no, but hell no. I will stand on the agreement forged under Reagan, along with my conservative brethren. If y'all think you can get conservative votes without delivering , you have another think coming.

Quote
You want to excommunicate anybody from the Church of Conservatism...especially a bold "Orange" guy because big spending happened on his watch.
..

Because big government grew on his watch (the money is just a way of keeping score), and because our liberties fell under massive threat on his watch. That's NOT Conservative, by the very definition. The very ROOT of conservative politics IS fiscal Conservatism and libertarianism - The very two things destroyed most under his watch. Historic and unforgivable destruction.

Tumpy is no Conservative. That is inarguable.

EXCELLENT  observation!

Where do I sign up for it?

You either adapt and change with the times,or are are no longer a part of the time.

No,this does NOT mean you have to give up on your core beliefs, but it does mean you can't be pushing them to the front of every issue, regardless of the times and circumstances.

If your core issues seem to be getting pushed in to the background,go into the background and organize in an effort to get them attached to bills you KNOW will get passed.

THAT is how the DNC came into damn near undisputed power.

You don't REALLY think the "closet multi-millionaires" in the DNC and their RINO pals that now control the federal agenda REALLY believe in all that crap they push forward,do you?

Nope,THOSE laws are for "Thee and Me",NOT them.

Granted,it is MUCH easier for the Dims to do this because they HAVE no core beliefs other than "Me,me,ME,DAMMIT!",but with the proper organization and co-operation,the pro-American politicians and their supporters can once again make important conservative policies become laws.
