Republican politicians have no right to suggest Biden step down if they can't do the same for Mitch.

I think that likely is happening as we speak.  Some behind the scenes conversations are either happening right now, or will soon.

I have a higher opinion than most of Mitch, and my guess is that if he does choose to step down, he'll try to take down Biden with him.  "We all have to recognize when it is our time, and this is mine.  I would like to suggest to my friend Joe Biden that it is likely his time as well, and time to turn things over to the next generation."

And endanger their personal Senate Staffer gravy train?

When Quentin Burdick was Senator from ND, I spoke with a lady who had tried to carry on a conversation with him on the plane. He was, in her opinion, non compos mentis. That did not stop him from running for reelection, and it was the staffers who propped him up for the few appearances, the campaign materials were stock photos and past video clips, edited to give the appearance of a fully mentally competent man. He died in office.

So, never. Not until he hits room temperature.

I get the power thing...but do you want to be known as the Chief of Staff to a sitting senator that had a massive stroke on camera and died?

Mitch McConnell is 'medically clear' to continue work, U.S. Capitol doctor says

The Capitol's attending physician said he "conferred" with the Republican leader's neurology team and that "occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery."

Aug. 31, 2023, 1:37 PM CDT
By Scott Wong and Ryan Nobles

WASHINGTON — One day after Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to freeze up at a public event, Brian Monahan, the attending physician for the U.S. Capitol, said that he told McConnell “he is medically clear” to continue to work.

Monahan said in a statement that he had “conferred” with McConnell’s neurology team and determined that McConnell is “medically cleared to continue with his schedule as planned.”

“Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration,” the doctor said.

This is the first time his office has acknowledged the staring spells McConnell has been dealing with could be attributed to lingering effects from his fall and concussion in March.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates

Light heaedness and going blank for two minutes are two distinctly different medical symptoms.

This guy sounds like a Boxing doctor from the 50's telling the combantants to forge ahead to the 15th round after the ring looks like a pool of blood.

For his age that is very worrisome.  What would be a simple fall for someone who was young or middle-aged (up to 50 or so) becomes something else entirely for someone who is in their 80s.  This "concussion" won't simply go away; it will leave serious, permanent damage on his brain, and could be the catalyst for age-related dementia.

Regardless of what the medical professionals may claim, citizens are owed the appearance of reasonable competency in addition to actual competency.  We'd be justified in losing faith in him, and out of respect for us, he should be looking for how to step down gracefully.

I agree @Polly Ticks   My D-I-L has epilepsy and it looks like the following:

Absence seizures
(Also known as: petit mal seizure)

The symptoms include:
Staring into space for a few seconds
A sudden stop in the motion without falling
Lip smacking
Eyelid fluttering
Chewing movements
Cognitive problems such as difficulty in paying attention
Rhythmic muscle contractions
Stopping speech midway

Well, those were Democrats, and it didn't bother them too much.
They stayed on as Mrs. Burdick took over for the rest of his term, to help, no doubt.

Now think like a swamp critter for a moment...
Consider, that if the figurehead was non compos mentis, that means they were running the show for them, and that makes them more valuable/dangerous, depending on how you look at it.

I, too, think it’s a seizure of some sort. My daughter has epilepsy and has experienced those types of seizures.

Yep.  My best friend's sister had a car accident when we were kids and suffered a TBI.  She's had epilepsy ever since, and her absence seizures look just like what Mitch is doing, too.

That's what I think, and have thought, as well. I have a good friend that developed the condition in her 60's. Sadly, her long term memory was severely impacted and her short term memory ain't too great. I wonder how Mitch's is.
