Christie seeks to win by getting under Trump’s skin
Few candidates have been as aggressive in their attacks against former President Trump or shown the ability to get under the former president’s skin quite like Chris Christie.
While the former New Jersey governor is occasionally quizzed at town halls and in TV interviews about his policy positions, his frequent and at times personal criticisms of Trump have garnered him headlines and raised the question of whether he can make waves in the primary field either with his candidacy or by derailing Trump’s.
Trump has called Christie a “fat pig,” a “failed governor” and “sloppy,” and he posted an unflattering photo on social media of Christie sleeping on an airplane. He has blamed Christie for recommending the appointment of FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has become a lightning rod for criticism on the right.
Christie has responded every step of the way, or in some instances triggered Trump’s ire, calling the former president a failed leader, a “coward,” a “one-man crime wave,” and suggesting if the two fought, he would “kick his ass.” His campaign slogan — “Because the Truth Matters” — is a thinly veiled retort to Trump and his frequent falsehoods........

Nah... sorta.
Christie is a perennial candidate. He ain't got a single shot in hell of winning and everybody knows it.
He's in it for the microphone and the matching government funds.
But since he is in there, without a damn thing to lose, He can stalking-horse for someone else, and meet tit-for-tat in like fashion, trading blows at Tumpy's level, and probably paid to do it.
But even if for kicks, good for the goose is good for the gander. Just desserts.

It is a strategy that has never worked against Trump. Sure, you can get under Trump's skin, and he will tweet insults back, but so what? This is what Trump supporters expect of their candidate. He is a professional troll who appeals to people who love him for it.
He is immune to insults.

Sure the core MAGA love him for that. But others don't. So if Christie baits him into saying or doing something that potentially loses him some of those votes, that's a win.
