Ron DeSantis changes campaign manager in Florida gov’s latest shakeup

The Ron Reshuffle rolls on.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has replaced his embattled campaign manager Generra Peck with his gubernatorial chief of staff, James Uthmeier, a rep told The Post Tuesday.

Peck, who oversaw DeSantis’ landslide gubernatorial re-election last year, will stay on as the campaign’s chief strategist, the spokesperson added.

Rumors had long swirled that DeSantis allies and donors were pressuring the campaign to replace Peck over concerns about bloated staff numbers and management issues.

In recent weeks, the campaign has laid off dozens of staffers, seeking to make its operations leaner as it scrambles to gain ground on former President Donald Trump. The Messenger first reported on the latest change.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis replaced campaign manager Generra Peck with a trusted political adviser who has worked with him for years but has little campaign experience.

DeSantis handed the role over to James Uthmeier on Tuesday, pulling the staffer up from his original position as chief of staff to the DeSantis' gubernatorial office. The change, confirmed by Fox News Digital, is the latest in a weekslong "reload" of the DeSantis campaign amid disappointing poll numbers in the 2024 GOP primary race.

Peck will stay on with the campaign as chief strategist.

"James Uthmeier has been one of Governor DeSantis' top advisors for years and he is needed where it matters most: working hand in hand with Generra Peck and the rest of the team to put the governor in the best possible position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden," campaign Communications Director Andrew Romeo told Fox in a statement. "David Polyansky will also be a critical addition to the team given his presidential campaign experience in Iowa and work at Never Back Down. We are excited about these additions as we continue to spread the governor's message across the country. It's time to reverse our nation's decline and revive America's future."

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has a new campaign manager as his presidential bid stalls in the polls.

DeSantis has tapped his gubernatorial chief of staff, James Uthmeier, for the top campaign position, replacing Generra Peck, who will now be his chief strategist.

"James Uthmeier has been one of Gov. DeSantis's top advisers for years, and he is needed where it matters most: working hand in hand with Generra Peck and the rest of the team to put the governor in the best possible position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden," DeSantis campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo told the Washington Examiner.

DeSantis previously promoted digital director Ethan Eilon to deputy campaign manager last month after he fired roughly 40% of his original staff amid concerns about his spending and fundraising, in addition to his polling more than an average of 30 percentage points behind former President Donald Trump. David Polyansky will now be deputy campaign manager.
