Trump hits Haley on her home turf, says he's being prosecuted because he's winning

August 05, 2023 10:28 PMFormer President Donald Trump told a big South Carolina Republican Silver Elephant Gala that he was being prosecuted because he is kicking President Joe Biden’s “a**” in the polls.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and former Gov. Nikki Haley are also seeking the 2024 GOP nomination, but it was Trump who was the keynote speaker at the large South Carolina GOP fundraising dinner, his second major campaign appearance since his third arraignment just days ago.
Trump hit Haley for being “afraid to show up at this beautiful event,” saying “You’ve got to show up at these events, Nikki… Ooh, did I say that?”
Haley served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump.
He also repeated his story about what he did to help Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) win his first term in 2018. “I don’t give a damn if he’s a Republican,” he said, mimicking conversations with unnamed advisers he said counseled him against hitting DeSantis particularly hard.
