 Rand Paul warns Republicans against falling into impeachment ‘trap’

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is warning Republicans against falling into the “trap” of impeachment after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) signaled earlier this week that the House could move forward with an impeachment inquiry against President Biden.

“It’s not good for the republic to keep impeaching presidents and indicting presidents,” Paul said in an interview on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.”

“All this stuff is destructive,” he added.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, McCarthy said the House GOP’s investigations into the Biden family’s foreign business activities are “rising to the level of impeachment inquiry,” but clarified no decision had been made.

Paul pushed back on that idea.

“The other side [Democrats] says, ‘Oh they want to, they’re for preserving democracy.’ They’re pitting everyone against each other and they’re destroying the fabric of our republic, so I think we have to be careful not to fall into the same trap,” Paul said.

I suppose Trump could ask him, but like I said, Paul is a smart guy.  He'd say no.

No, Trump's not asking Paul to be his running mate.  He'll be more valuable in the Senate.

Paul is the most independently-minded senator in Congress.  Just today, he was the only Republican to vote against the bill to establish a consolidated accountability office for supplies going to Ukraine.  He never compromises anything he believes for the sake of party unity/solidarity.

If there is one thing Trump will demand of his VP, it is loyalty.  He will be expected to support Administrative initiatives and proposals even if he doesn't agree with them personally.

And that just isn't how Rand Paul is wired.   For that reason, he's probably be about the worst Senator Trump could pick.  That's not really slam on Trump - he'd be a poor VP for just about anyone with whom he isn't aligned 95+% of the time.

Of course Trumps not for several reasons, Rand isn't a woman or person of color or a  :pondering:....sychophant. And clearly he is against unchecked spending.

If only we could incarcerate Trump forever, and keep Biden in office long after Biden has passed on.  Maybe make Hunter the next Pes?  Never Trumpers never passed away, they just lie about having done so.
