Republicans are wrongly abandoning AI leadership to Democrats

By Christopher Koopman
July 17, 2023

Only one political party is seriously talking about artificial intelligence — Democrats.

And they’re taking it in the wrong direction.

New York City AI legislation — the first of its kind — went into effect this month.

On its face, the law looks fine: Employers shouldn’t use AI to discriminate in hiring.

That’s true, but the fine print is all costly mandates and government threats.

The Big Apple’s liberal leaders are trying to regulate AI instead of unleashing it to improve lives.

They aren’t alone. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is leading the charge for full-on federal regulation of AI.

And in a recent visit to Silicon Valley, President Joe Biden promised to use the power of government to protect Americans from AI.

Sure enough, his administration has already released a “blueprint” for government control of AI.

Where is the Republican Party in all this?

Imagine in 1943 if this tech had been available. No snitches would have been needed. Everything, from the lights to heat to water use to the DNA of the poop in the sewer could be monitored, exposing anyone hiding under the floor boards. Exposing 'criminals against the state' for using too much of this  or that, controlling where you go, recognizing your face, locking you in, and delivering you to the camps, and all with only the manpower needed to keep the vehicles going and the systems up. Which would have freed so many more to go forth and fight for ....

Every technology has a dark side. What can be used for good, convenience, and to bring satisfaction can be used to torture, control, and enslave, not to mention kill...

Whether single targeted individuals or entire demographics or populations, and it seems we are all in the crosshairs.

AI could lead to unimagined prosperity or incredible horror, and the story would never get out because those who control the medium control the news.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
