This is *NOT* hyperbole.


Some Congressional Republicans are deeply committed to budget policies that would cripple NASA and erase the dominance the US currently enjoys over the Chinese space program.


Republicans in the House of Representatives have made it repeatedly and abundantly clear that they want to reduce the size of the federal budget in 2023 and beyond. They recently engaged in a high-stakes negotiation with President Biden in order to raise the debt ceiling, with many of the most conservative members voting against the deal because it didn’t go far enough. Many of these conservatives were so furious they staged a revolt on the House floor last week, paralyzing the chamber and throwing the Republican conference into turmoil.
