‘Vulgarity and Violence’ Cited as King James Bible Removed from Some Utah School Libraries

SIMON KENT2 Jun 20231,039

A Utah committee has responded to allegations “vulgarity and violence” contained in the pages of the King James Bible are reason enough for its removal from some Davis School District younger grade library shelves.

ABC4 Utah reports the original complaint that sparked the move was filed by an unknown person in March. It came on the heels of a statewide law passed in 2022 that allowed residents to challenge any books found in school libraries.

As of March, the law was used 81 times with Davis County having removed 33 books for material found to contain sex, vulgarity, and violence, the report sets out.

A book removal request can be made on the district’s website, however, the complainant must set out their reasoning.

Well, the Bible is pretty clear about all that alphabet stuff.

Sodom and Gomorrah got hit pretty hard.

The Bible is a filthy book full of filthy stories about filthy people committing filthy acts.

To preserve the purity and innocent of the childrens, the Bible needs to be removed from children's and school libraries, post-haste.  If their eyes look upon such sin, the childrens may be turned to pillars of salt.

Have you ever read the Old Testament?  The language, subject matter, violence - damn, ass, sodomy, bestiality, adulltery, fornication, slavery, genocide - is completely inappropriate for innocent minds.  No wonder God was so pissed in the Old Testament.

Sounds to me like maybe the perverts that had their groomer books banned from the school libraries are using the same rules to have the KJ Bible banned, I wonder what they will go after next?

Utah Schools That Banned Bible Target Book of Mormon Next
By Eric Mack    |   Saturday, 03 June 2023 02:52 PM EDT
Newsmax

Activists are continuing to target Utah's 2022 law that permits parents to seek the removal of books containing pornographic or indecent material.

They already got the Bible restricted in Davis County school district and are now putting the Book of Morman on the chopping block, The Guardian reported Saturday.

The Davis school district, north of Salt Lake City, is reviewing the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints foundational text after a complaint it contains "pornographic or indecent materials" in a violation of Utah state law passed year. ...
Now will the people of Utah stop this nonsense? Guess it depends on whose ox is being gored.

Once the book banning and the book burning starts, every written work looks obscene, indecent, pornographic, blasphemous, etc., to someone.

Next comes the witch trials with the hangings or burning people at the stake.  At least, that's how Massachusetts Puritans did it in the 1600s.

Maybe they will finally get rid of Portnoy's Complaint?

But all that leaves Brave New World on the chopping block, too...along with Mao's Little Red Book.

(not to mention virtually ANY history book, as such are filled with violence)

The thing that is missing is a way or instrument for each locality to restore the books. By vote of the people, perhaps.

It will not stand anyway... We're talking Mormons here... They won't stand for it, I am sure.

You make a good point. Being able to reinstate some volumes by popular demand or at least subject the removal process to review might be a good thing, as long as that process isn't hijacked from a somnolent public.

What they are ignoring is that those in the Bible who practiced immorality suffered consequences. Those concepts and their repercussions were presented to teach what to avoid, and to show the dominance of God.

The Bible has been censored in all sorts of places. It persists because it is true.

As for the general idea of censorship, I am not against it. I am likely for it within reason. I suppose it to be necessary, at some level. The trick is in degrees and the deciders. I see some responsibility in the state... And understand it in the county. But in the end, I would finally leave that to the People.

There are things children should not be suffered to see. There are things that belong beyond pleasant society. There was a time when all that was on the other side of the tracks, and it was better that way.

Well,ANY Bible is going to mention violence because both public and private violence back in those days were as common as flies, but where is the vulgarity?

BTW,I don't even PRETEND to be a Bible Thumper, but  I do know what I wrote above is true.

And THERE is the end of it all. It may well START with the Bible, but you can bet your bippy that it will NOT stop there.

It's not really about the Bible as much as it is about  controlling speech to the point there is no such thing as "free speech" anymore.

I stand with  the Bible Thumpers on this one.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there also some dude named Jesus that also "suffered consequences"?

I SEEM to recall he had a reputation for being pretty "squeaky-clean".
