Harry Schell III, ( LIPS ), died 3/3/81 on board YW-03, while deployed on the USS Belleau Wood LHA-3, on his 3rd WESPAC.
Lips died while testing an engine as crew chief. His aircraft engine failed while hovering over the flight deck. The accident cost Lips his life and a Navy deck handler lost one of his legs from the flying shrapnel of the rotor blades striking the deck. He was the 3rd Marine I served with personally that passed in training accidents.
