The 2016 Argument For Trump and Why It Fails...
« on: May 04, 2023, 12:49:20 pm »

In regular interactions with ultramaga, you will see them raise the shibboleth of 2016. An example of this is as follows:

"Everybody said Trump could not win in 2016 but he did. So he can win in 2024 too."

Now Trumps post-2016 election track record is abysmal. This can and has been detailed by me before. Also, Trump has no viable path to 270 as I have detailed before and that really is all that should matter when nominating a candidate. Trump diehards cannot refute those points.

But let us table them for a moment and focus on the strongest argument Trump folks have.

It is not talk about what he supposedly has achieved with pictorials of absurdly padded lists of purported "accomplishments." Instead, it is the 2016 argument.

Democrats who did not like Clinton all that much decided to just stay home because they bought the media hype of her having the election "in the bag."

Yup

There are a couple huge differences between the Orange-2016, and Orange- 2024.

(1) Trump came out with a plank that said he would reduce the deficit.  The actual result, he increased quicker and more severe than any POTUS in history up to his point
(2) He had several other points that indicated that he would govern as a conservative.  Since he was a blank slate, and though a party jumping one at that,  we like Flounder in Animal House ......   "Trusted Him"
(3) In 2024, Trump has  taken off the mask, and is squawking about silly shit like Freedom Cities, subsidized baby bonuses, and Jetson Cars.  My best estimate is this will add about $15T to the national debt.  Which is probably about what Pedo Joe's GND stuff will cost.  Trump is dying to become another FDR.
(4) The Orange minions are banking on the "binary decision" argument (like 2016) as we approach November 2024.  Hopefully, we will not play Lucy-Charlie Brown Football, and come to our senses, and put a real conservative on the ticket first.

@LMAO

Far as I'm concerned, 2016 was a fluke. Not going to happen again.

I do think Biden is a horrible candidate, but I do think you won't see any Dems fail to vote for him as happened with Hillary.

While refusing to apply that same binary argument to any Republican other than Trump himself.

I think 50% of left side of the poltical spectra would crawl through glass and vote for Josef Stalin, if it meant not voting for Trump.
It'd be nice, not to give them that incentive.

Well I don't think that they are going to do the same mistake again.

Exactly

I can accept someone saying they won’t vote for any Republican candidate for POTUS unless it’s Trump.

But they display a copious amount of hypocrisy when they then claim that others who won’t vote for Trump if he’s the nominee are just helping Biden

They haven’t made that same mistake again. See 2018, 2020, and the dismal 2022 midterms
