Not necessarily.
Look at Japan, which is almost in a "negative population growth" decline right now.
It will continue, because the Japanese people (rightly) do not permit immigration nor many (any?) foreigners from becoming "Japanese" (that is reserved for ethnic Japanese only).
So as the population contracts, so eventually will the economy, to go along.
I sense the Japanese will be both resourceful and clever about this, with robotization of factories and production where possible, and even robot/AI "companions" for some folks at home (I realize this can't take the place of a real companion).
The alternative is what we'll face right here in America, as tens upon tens upon tens of millions more pour in from the third world. And no one -- particularly traditional-minded Euro Americans -- is doing anything to stop the flood, nor WILL do anything in the future to stop it.
Is that the kind of "growth" that makes you happy?
