The Latest Fad In The Climate Change Movement: Degrowth

Last December, the journal Nature published an article titled “Degrowth can work — here’s how science can help.” The body of the article is overflowing with earnest assertions that don’t hold up to even cursory scrutiny.

Indeed, the fatuity of many of its statements is reminiscent of idealistic youth who envision a better world and believe that all they have to do to achieve it is make everybody do A, B, and C, and — voilà! — problem fixed. [emphasis, links added]

Alas, the real world isn’t so easily controllable, nor does central planning have a track record that inspires confidence. Yes, I’m talking about socialist central planning here. That is what degrowth is all about.

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

"Degrowth" will, inevitably, devolve into "forced depopulation".

Not necessarily.
Look at Japan, which is almost in a "negative population growth" decline right now.

It will continue, because the Japanese people (rightly) do not permit immigration nor many (any?) foreigners from becoming "Japanese" (that is reserved for ethnic Japanese only).

So as the population contracts, so eventually will the economy, to go along.

I sense the Japanese will be both resourceful and clever about this, with robotization of factories and production where possible, and even robot/AI "companions" for some folks at home (I realize this can't take the place of a real companion).

The alternative is what we'll face right here in America, as tens upon tens upon tens of millions more pour in from the third world. And no one -- particularly traditional-minded Euro Americans -- is doing anything to stop the flood, nor WILL do anything in the future to stop it.

Is that the kind of "growth" that makes you happy?

Not me.

I have been amazed at how prescient Twilight Zone was. There was an episode about a robot nanny and an episode where a man on a "prison" planet was supplied with a woman robot. They looked and acted like humans. Can you say AI?

The Japanese maybe ahead of us in this area...but it will come.

Is degrowth a euphemism for genocide, euthanasia, forced sterilization, and eugenics?

It's amazing how globalist billionaires have plans to make to make the world a better place by eliminating non-billionaires.
