Criminal charges against Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting on the set of his movie “Rust” have been dropped, sources told The Post.

Baldwin, 65, was charged with involuntary manslaughter over the Oct. 21, 2021, shooting of the 45-year-old cinematographer on the New Mexico film set.

Criminal charges against Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting on the set of his movie “Rust” have been dropped, according to his lawyers.

Baldwin, 65, was charged with involuntary manslaughter over the Oct. 21, 2021 shooting of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of the Western movie, after a prop pistol he was using for a scene unexpectedly fired a real bullet.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, brought by the Santa Fe district attorney.

In a statement to The Post, Baldwin’s lawyers Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said, “We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.”

“Rust” director Joel Souza was standing behind Hutchins viewing a camera angle as Baldwin rehearsed a scene in which he was to draw his revolver and point it at the camera when the tragic incident occurred.

Alec Baldwin Not Absolved In Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting Despite Planned Dropping Of Charges, Prosecutors Say – Update

 UPDATED with special prosecutor statement after PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE: Despite a heady day of news about special prosecutors in New Mexico planning to drop criminal charges against Alec Baldwin for his role in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in 2021, the actor and producer may still face charges.

The special prosecutors, Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, released a statement late Thursday regarding the decision to drop his charges, saying they may be refiled after “further investigation.”

“Over the last few days and in preparation for the May 3, 2023, preliminary hearing, new facts were revealed that demand further investigation and forensic analysis in the case against Alexander “Alec” Rae Baldwin, III. Consequently, we cannot proceed under the current time constraints and on the facts and evidence turned over by law enforcement in its existing form. We therefore will be dismissing the involuntary manslaughter charges against Mr. Baldwin to conduct further investigation. This decision does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled. Our follow-up investigation will remain active and on-going.”

Despite reports earlier in the day that former Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed would also see her charges dropped, her status has not changed. “Charges against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed remain unchanged,” the prosecutors said tonight.

 A virtual status hearing has been set for Friday in Santa Fe.

PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE, 12:03 p.m. PT, updated with lawyers’ statements: Less than two weeks before a mini-trial was scheduled to begin in New Mexico over the October 2021 killing of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, all charges are going to be dropped against Alec Baldwin.

So the person who pulled the trigger is NOT being charged, but the one that supervised the firearms is still in limbo.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
This is the douchewheel that blowharded on Twitter that gunowners should face the maximum penalty for anything bad that happened with their guns.

I hope the family of Hutchins sues him till he's broke.

Well then Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, get to it! This POS needs to be held accountable for his gross negligence. There's absolutely no excuse for what he did.

@Elderberry

Un,huh.

Translation "He's "golden" if the deposits show up in the offshore accounts before the trial starts."

People not only saw Baldwin take the shot,IIRC,it was recorded as it happened.

Not that any of that actually matters. What matters is "Who is the judge,and to whom does he owe favors?"

Justice served. The idea that he was responsible for a prop malfunction on a movie set is beyond retarded. Sadly, he got justice because of who he is and what he farts out of his leftist mouth. People who never hurt anybody directly or indirectly are being hunted down by the criminal scum who populate the federal government, justice be damned.

@ccoffer

How and in what way?

Did he,or did he NOT point a loaded gun at someone else,and then pull the trigger,causing them to die?

Does he,or does he not have decades of experience with prop guns in movies?

Was there ANY legitimate justifiable reason for him to point ANY firearm,regardless of if it is a prop gun or a hunting gun at ANY other human being,cock the hammer back,aim it at them,and purposely pull the trigger?

At a MINIMUM it was reckless homicide that resulted in the death of an innocent.

I have no idea how much,if any,experience you have with single-action revolvers,but it is "falling off a log" easy to check them to see if they are loaded,and this goes up by 100+ times when you consider that earlier that day some of the cast and crew had been target shooting with this very revolver,using live ammunition.

If this had been thee or me and it had been Baldwin that was shot to death,we would most likely still be sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial because the bail would be too high for us to make it.

BTW,it was NOT a "prop malfunction". He purposely pointed the firearm at someone,cocked the hammer,and pulled the trigger. The gun did was it was supposed to do. Baldwin was the one that malfunctioned.

Do you own a television or have access to one? Maybe at the bus station? Ever see those shootem ups? Guys shooting all over the place? Shooting up, shooting down? Shoot, shoot , shooting all around? Does your head fit so far up your own ass that you think all of those actors are doing prop inspections between takes? If so, you should be in the circus.

@ccoffer

Ahhh,so you are a Baldwin "fan-boi".

If you PURPOSELY point a loaded gun at another human being that is NOT a physical threat to you in any way,and then purposely pull the trigger,you just committed murder.

The old  "I didn't know the gun was loaded!" excuse was BS the first time it was aired,and is BS now because it is the responsibility of the person holding the firearm to make sure  the gun is not loaded.
