What the Manhattan DA office taught us about a Trump vs. DeSantis 2024 contest

Whatever Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg does next, he has, through the reports of a coming indictment, revealed how former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) would handle each other in a 2024 Republican primary campaign.

DeSantis quickly pushed back against the possible indictment on the merits, though not volubly enough for Trump’s strongest supporters, while at the same time subtly restating the case against the former president’s fitness for the nomination.

Trump immediately struck back, reconsidered it, and then escalated his attacks against DeSantis even further still.

DeSantis agreed that the impending prosecution is politically motivated while noting the charges involve "paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair," something the Florida governor added he never had to do.

Trump responded by telling "DeSanctimonious" that he would learn about unfair attacks in due time after getting into the presidential race — and then telegraphing that Trump himself planned to launch some of those attacks and hinting what they might be.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

The difference is that DeSantis thinks before he speaks, and likes to have the actual facts before spouting off.  Trump has no filter, doesn't think before he speaks, and will react reflexively to rumors.

Or to put it differently, one knows when to shut up, and there other never shuts up.

I voted for Trump in '16 and '20. But I wish he would go away. The current administration HAS to be defeated - given how Bite-me seems determined to stumble into WW3 by provoking the nuclear bear, the US may not even survive until '24.

But Trump sucks all the oxygen out of the room - as long as he's around only HE (and not no-win wars, Bidenflation, failing banks, etc) get attention.

Trump (and Biden) is bread and circuses, and we cannot afford it. DeSantis is an adult when our government sorely needs one

DeSantis is controlled by his political handlers and donor owners.  I am pleased you didn't add "independently" to the presumption he "thinks".

I'd be curious to know which RINO special interest group was in favor of DeSantis shipping illegals up north, removing a Disney privilege that has been in existence for more than half a century, a d pushing through legislation banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory in state supported schools, or gender studies crap to third graders.

Or maybe he just does things because he believes they are the right thing to do.

Or removing COVID-19 restrictions which, I seem to recall, were universally supported by the very same RINOs who allegedly control Mr. DeSantis.

He did eat at the same restaurant that the “ globalists RINOs”  ate at in DC a few times
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.
