Be Afraid: Biden’s Regulatory Regime Is Now Targeting Household Appliances

washing machineEnergy experts and manufacturers are warning that the Biden administration’s aggressive regulatory regime will lead to more expensive household appliances that are far less effective than current models.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has made so-called energy efficiency standards a central part of its climate agenda since Biden took office, boasting that it has taken more than 110 actions on appliances in 2022 alone. [emphasis, links added]

According to experts, though, the regulations impacting everything from water heaters and furnaces to clothes washers and dishwashers could ultimately be counterproductive.

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

After they ban (by regulation) gas stoves, they WILL ban gas water heaters, furnaces, and dryers.

I would expect to see such regulations to "emerge" by the end of the year.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
We had a pair of those "energy efficient" washers and dryers.

The clothes were just not getting as clean.
On the spin cycle that front loader ate t-shirts and other garments.
The drain line on the washer was prone to plugging, as it also sucked little socks into it, trapped them, and plugged the line. Unfortunately, to get the socks out of the line, the entire contents of the washer had to be drained, and that was a pain in the ass. Then the 'brain' went on the fritz, first on the washer, then on the dryer, after it caught fire (poor workmanship caused a buildup of fine dust throughout the inside of the cabinet, which was finally ignited by the element). That was the end of that crap. We threw them out.

Screw efficiency, water is not in short supply here.

We found a industrial grade high capacity top loader, I changed out the pump, and it has been running just fine for years. I replaced a few parts on that old speed queen dryer, and it is still going strong.  The total cost for both units (not counting my labor) was less than the 'high efficiency' dryer alone, and the results are much better.

If all else fails, I have a tub and a washboard, and a few bars of Fels Naptha...

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Expect higher prices AND shortages of appliances should this be implemented

I
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.
