On the 187th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo, the question of staying in the American union or declaring independence is again being put up for consideration in the Texas Legislature.

State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R–Royse City) has filed House Bill 3596, which, if passed, would put to voters in the next general election the question of whether Texas will leave the union or stay.

According to the “TEXIT Referendum Act,” if passed, a referendum will be placed on the ballot during the November election, asking people to vote for or against the proposition of “Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?”

Texas Nationalist Movement President Daniel Miller says support for TEXIT has continued to rise. During an interview with KXDJ, Miller said he believes there is enough support for the referendum to win by a substantial margin if it goes to a vote.
