This week, as New Jersey notes the 91st anniversary of the infamous kidnapping and murder of aviator Charles Lindbergh’s baby in Hopewell, a group of researchers and filmmakers is pressing its legal fight to reexamine the case evidence using rapidly developing DNA technology such as that used on the Egyptian mummy.

After a setback in Superior Court earlier this year, the group — which includes forensic pathologists, DNA analysts and an Academy Award-winning documentary producer — recently filed a notice of appeal and says it will press on for the sake of “historical truth.”

And that truth very much appears to rest on DNA testing that has never been tried, let alone completed, on the evidence.
