Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump subpoenaed in special counsel investigation: Report

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have reportedly been subpoenaed by special counsel Jack Smith as part of his investigation into former President Donald Trump's alleged role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
Kushner and Ivanka Trump served as advisers to Donald Trump during his presidency and are the latest Trump administration officials to be subpoenaed by Smith, per the New York Times.
Smith was appointed by the Justice Department to oversee the various investigations into Donald Trump in November 2022 after the latter announced his candidacy for president in 2024. The investigations include his alleged role in the Jan. 6 riot, along with his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Donald Trump's daughter and son-in-law were key members of the administration, being a part of the former president's inner circle during his time in office. It is currently unknown if they will challenge the subpoena, per the New York Times report.
Smith has also subpoenaed former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Vice President Mike Pence. Pence is fighting the subpoena, citing the separation of powers, noting that he was serving in his role as president of the Senate during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
