Ohio train derailment: FEMA to deploy team to East Palestine 2 weeks after disaster
Biden administration says Ohio train derailment doesn't meet legal requirements for FEMA disaster declaration

By Julia Musto | Fox News

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is deploying federal assistance to Ohio now more than two weeks after the toxic Norfolk Southern train derailment that threatened the village of East Palestine.

Gov. Mike DeWine said the move came following further discussions with the agency.

In a joint statement on Friday, the governor and FEMA Regional Administrator Thomas Sivak said FEMA and Ohio had been in "constant contact" regarding emergency operations in the community.

"U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA have been working together since day one," they said. "Tomorrow, FEMA will supplement federal efforts by deploying a Senior Response Official along with a Regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) to support ongoing operations, including incident coordination and ongoing assessments of potential long term recovery needs."

Hours After Trump Announces Upcoming Visit to East Palestine, FEMA Reverses Course and Will Support Ohio Community
February 17, 2023 | Sundance

The announcement by President Trump with his intent to visit East Palestine next Wednesday, followed moments later by a reversal announcement from FEMA stating they will now offer support to East Palestine, do not seem coincidental.

The Biden administration, including the EPA, FEMA and Transporation Secretary, was likely very worried about the optics of getting blasted by President Trump very visibly next week for their lack of urgency and concern.   Moments after Trump announces his visit, FEMA reverses their prior denial of aid. lol

Yes, they say they're responding to DeWine's request, which I suspect he made several days ago. Pretty sure the Biden administration is peeved that Trump stuck his nose in their little polluted mess, and forced them to stop ignoring East Palestine.
