Texas Scorecard  by Emily Wilkerson January 17, 2023

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy introduced legislation that would defund the WHO due to its close ties with the Chinese Communist Party.

Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Roy of Kerrville introduced legislation to defund the World Health Organization, as many are concerned about China’s influence over the organization.

H.R. 343, titled “No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization,” would prohibit the United States from providing the WHO with assessed or voluntary funds.

The U.S. has been one of the WHO’s largest donors for many years, and invested approximately $700 million in 2020-2021. In December 2021, the U.S. announced it would make an additional contribution of $280 million to help end COVID-19 and strengthen public health systems.

It's both easy and fun to introduce conservative bills...
... when you know they haven't a snowball's chance in hell of actually passing.
