California Democrat Rep. Katie Porter announces 2024 Senate run for Sen. Feinstein's seat
Porter currently represents California's 47th Congressional District

By Kyle Morris , Paul Steinhauser | Fox News

Democrat Rep. Katie Porter of California announced Tuesday that she is entering the Golden State's 2024 Senate race.

The announcement comes before Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who has represented California in the Senate since 1992, has made any announcement about whether she will seek re-election in 2024 when her current term expires.

Feinstein, who at age 89 is the oldest serving senator, is widely expected to announce in the coming months that she won't seek another term in office.

In a clip shared to social media, Porter, who won re-election to her House seat in the November midterm elections, said: "We're living through a time of extraordinary change. I'm Katie Porter. Change can be electrifying and exhilarating, but change can also be disruptive — like the constant assault on our democracy and the dangerous imbalance in our economy."

Good - this would open a competitive house seat in OC.

The Dems don't want to admit that Feinstein is kaput.

Another take: Porter got a first-mover advantage by not waiting for Feinstein and her rivals have to make a scandal out of it.
Everyone who isn't paid to be nice about this knows that Feinstein's too old and doddering to run again.

Democrats not waiting for Feinstein in California Senate race
by David M. Drucker, Senior Political Correspondent |

California Democrats are not deferring to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) or waiting for the 30-year incumbent to reveal her 2024 plans.

That includes Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), who announced her Senate bid this week. That includes Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Feinstein’s Democratic colleague in the Senate, who on Thursday endorsed Porter’s Senate campaign — which, if Feinstein chose not to retire, would function as a direct threat to a 2024 reelection bid. Party insiders are expecting more aspiring California Democrats to follow Porter’s lead regardless of what the 89-year-old Feinstein chooses to do. ...

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) has informed House colleagues she intends to run for Senate, while Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who has a massive $20 million war chest at the ready, and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) are also expressing interest in mounting a campaign. Expectations that Feinstein will retire is one factor driving Democrats to move early this year to enter, or plan to enter, the California Senate race.

It is not the only factor.

The 2024 California Senate primary is in March — just 14 months away. That doesn’t leave much time to organize and raise money to run a viable campaign in the nation’s most populous state, where advertising costs are high. ... https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/democrats-not-waiting-feinstein-california-senate-race
