McCarthy defiant ahead of speaker vote: 'I've earned this damn job'
BREAKING: @MattGaetz says members were threatened with removal from committees if they don’t vote for Kevin McCarthy for Speaker.
434 present for the vote
Are there really that many present? Or is proxy voting in effect?
Is it correct that the Speaker's chair requires a majority of members (218) rather than a majority of those voting?
Report: Boebert, Gaetz, Perry Told McCarthy They Don’t Mind if Democrat Hakeem Jeffries Wins SpeakershipThree House Freedom Caucus members reportedly told GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in a private meeting on Monday that they don’t mind if incoming House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) wins the speakership.https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/01/03/report-boebert-gaetz-perry-told-mccarthy-they-dont-mind-if-democrat-hakeem-jeffries-wins-speakership/
We may have Jeffries as the Speaker...this is f'king unbelievable...
Per CSPAN as I understand it, it requires a physical presence for the vote. And, voting 'present' does not add to the vote total either.
