McCarthy defiant ahead of speaker vote: 'I've earned this damn job'

Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) said he's "earned" the job of speaker of the House in a tense Republican conference meeting before Tuesday's speaker vote.

The embattled No. 1 House Republican gave a speech making the case for why he should have the gavel, telling his Republican colleagues that he's "earned this damn job," according to sources in the room, who said his remarks received a standing ovation. He pledged to stay and fight for the job even if very few members stand with him.

America hasn't earned you, dumbass.  This isn't about you.  It is about restoring this country to it's original design.  The path we are on now will end with the destruction of this Republic.  And it's attitudes like yours that is causing it.

The only think that McCarthy has 'earned' is a medal from the Democrats for not blocking anything they have wanted to do over the past four years.

The best thing that could possibly come out of this is to have an outsider (i.e. someone not a member of the House) to be put in the Speaker's chair.

The name 'Mark Levin' comes to mind.

Per CSPAN as I understand it, it requires a physical presence for the vote. And, voting 'present' does not add to the vote total either.

From what I can read, it must be 218 but haven't seen anything that really confirms that very well.

I don't think Jeffries will get 8 GOP votes. Best thing to do, is for McCarthy to defer to Scalise or even better Jordon.
