Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has yet to secure enough GOP votes to win the speaker’s gavel when the new Congress convenes on Jan. 3, prompting some Republican lawmakers to start eyeing his deputy, Steve Scalise, as a last-minute substitute.

They say that Mr. Scalise, 57, has all the right traits to win the job. 

Mr. Scalise said he has no intention of running for speaker and “supports Kevin McCarthy” for the position, his spokeswoman told The Washington Times. ...

My only complaint against Scalise is that he is the current GOP Whip in the House.  His primary job is to bring GOP members into unity on key votes.  The fact that over 13% of Republican House members voted for the Democrat Omnibus bill tells me that Scalise has not been an effective Whip.

Steve Scalise is making a play for Speaker, he’d be a disaster!
In 2018 Scalise tried to withhold border security funding unless “dreamers” received citizenship.
Scalise was the only leadership member that supported Cheney & Scalise has been silent on Pelosi’s J6 involvement.

Did you know that Steve Scalise defended Liz Cheney up until the very end of her race?

@HagemanforWY repeatedly asked @SteveScalisefor help. But he refused to work against Liz Cheney.

Every other member of House GOP Leadership sided with Hageman & Trump over Cheney.
