Congress Releases $1.7 Trillion, 4,155-Page Omnibus Bill
« on: December 20, 2022, 02:18:26 pm »

Congressional appropriators dropped the $1.7 trillion, 4,155-page omnibus spending bill at 1:30 A.M. ET Tuesday, giving lawmakers days to read it before the government shuts down Friday.

The bill would fund the government through September 2023 and would boost defense spending by $76 billion, totaling $858 billion. Domestic spending is $773 billion.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has chalked up the higher increase in defense spending compared to domestic spending as a Republican victory, even though Democrats managed to pass their $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act, which boosted domestic expenditures on climate change and other leftist domestic priorities.

Among other priorities, the bill includes:

$45 billion in military and economic aid for Ukraine’s conflict with Russia. This is billions more than the $37 billion Biden requested
$5 billion in earmarks for 3,200 projects
$47 billion for the National Institutes of Health
$1 billion for Peurto Rico’s electrical grid
$600 million to address water issues in Jackson, Mississippi
The Senate version of the Electoral Count Reform Act, which would change the process for lawmakers to object to the certification of the presidential election
Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) push to have a ban on TikTok on government devices is included in the omnibus

Other priorities that did not make it into the bill include:

    Coronavirus aid
Extension of the enhanced Child Tax Credit (CTC)
The SAFE Banking Act, which would allow marijuana businesses to have more access to banking services
A bill to narrow alleged sentencing disparities between crack and powder cocaine

House conservatives swiftly came out against the omnibus spending bill. Thirteen House Republicans wrote a letter to Senate Republicans, urging them to oppose the bill.

Report: Omnibus Bill to Include Electoral Count Act that Was Crafted in Response to January 6

The omnibus spending bill will include the Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act, a bill that was drafted in the wake of the January 6 Capitol Riots to amend the Electoral Count Act of 1887 and change the process for members of Congress to object to the certification of a presidential election, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

To really put things into perspective, it hasn't been that awfully long that the entire federal deficit WAS ONLY $1.7T (1985)

Now we piss that away in a year.

Remind me again: why do I keep voting for Republicans?

Because the Democrats are worse?

True, but the difference is becoming harder to see with each passing year.

The GOP never, ever manages to reverse anything the Democrats have done.

They don't win because they will not fight, and they will not fight because they value their positions of power and influence, not the ideas or policies that their voters prefer.

They only say what they have to in order to get elected.

And then they roll right over for the Democrats, because nearly none of them have the guts to deal with the serial abuse that they will get from the Democrat-controlled institutions and news media were they to actually try to oppose or promote something.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Some tidbits: In addition to giving an extra $45 billion to Ukraine, the Omnibus will also fund the creation of a "Ukrainian Independence Park" in Washington, DC.

It expressly prohibits CBP funding from being used to improve border security, but at the same time, allocates $410 million towards border security for Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman.

$65 million in two programs for Senator Leahy, and a federal building named for Nancy Pelosi.

Here is some of what we know is in the Omnibus. It was negotiated in secrecy and is 4,000 pages. Imagine what we don’t know is in it. Congress has taken advantage of the Christmas season by using the Holiday as leverage to push through this $1.66 trillion omnibus spending bill.

41 Republican Senators can block this.  You'll be lucky to get a third of that.

I just saw where illegals in New York are staying at Park Avenue hotels eating four free meals a day, and are being given clothing allowances to shop for clothing.  They are also being given free medical care including psychological.  And free education.

Is there any wonder why people are illegally entering our country?  95% of illegal immigration can be halted by doing one simple thing.  And unlike a wall or border security, it won't cost taxpayers a dime:

STOP HANDING OUT FREE SHIT TO ILLEGALS !!!

Neil Munro20 Dec 20220

Retiring Republican Sen. Richard Shelby helped Democrats win at least $3 billion to fund the administration’s catch-and-release network that delivers economic migrants into Americans’ workplaces and housing.

The migration funding is hidden deep in the 4,155-page appropriations bill that will keep agencies funded until October 2023. Shelby is the top Republican senator on the Senate’s appropriations committee and packed at least $600 million in “earmark” spending for his home state in his final appropriations bill.

The spending bill is expected to pass Congress before Christmas because Democrats have likely won back-room support from at least 10 GOP Senators.

“A huge chunk of the money that’s going to DHS [the Department of Homeland Security] is being used to fund [migrant] processing and release — and definitely not being used for deportation, ” said Rosemary Jenks, the political director at NumbersUSA.

“The bill provides $16.7 billion for CBB [Customs and Border Protection] $1.8 billion above the fiscal year 2022 enacted level and $1.3 billion above the President’s budget request,” said a statement from Democrat-run House homeland appropriations panel. The statement added:

$1.9 billion in additional support for CBP and ICE to help manage the high volume of migrants arriving at the southern border, including:

$1.56 million to CBP for processing facilities, migrant medical care, transportation, personnel overtime, and other costs; and

$339.7 million for ICE for processing capacity, migrant medical care, transportation; and other non-detention costs.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who lost her GOP primary in August by nearly 40 points, was granted earmarks worth over $5 million in the $1.7 trillion, 4,155-page omnibus bill.

If the bill passes Congress in the next few days, Cheney will have spent $5,031,000 of taxpayers’ funds on pet projects in Wyoming. The specific earmarks are:

Natrona County, Casper, Wyoming, for Facilities and Equipment ($1,500,000)
City of Gillette, Wyoming, for Senator Mike Enzi Memorial Overpass Replacement Project ($3,000,000)
Food Bank of Wyoming for Food Bank of Wyoming Truck Equipment ($531,000)

Cheney famously lost her GOP primary to Rep.-elect Harriet Hageman (R-WY) by a massive margin after she allied herself with Democrats on the partisan January 6 Committee.

Don't get me wrong, I'm against this Christmas Pork Pie project altogether.
But if that's all she got she deserved to lose.
That's chump change (0.3% of the total, pretty skimpy for one of just 50 states).
Of course, that could be an extended middle finger on the way out the door, too.
