Spot on with all the positives you noted above.

The one thing I forgot to mention in the OP that I'm really grateful for is that I didn't have to fire a round. Don't get me wrong I was prepared to had her ex felon boyfriend stepped out of the bedroom. But I'm glad he had enough of a brain not to test me.

Unlike words, you can't take back that bullet once it's been fired.

Guess I really can't add any advice and review above what tator said so elegantly. Pray for wisdom... and sometimes it is best to take the loss over further divides in the family. Sometimes the lost son may be a daughter that returns to you asking forgiveness. Like P.H said, sometimes you have to just take in account the blessings of coming out alive. I do know the hurt will take a while to stop stinging, and it hurts bad I am sure (just judging by run-in with my family).

I am grieved to hear of your ordeal, I would love to give you advice but have nothing to help, so I will do the one positive I can and offer prayers and support for you and your wife and hope that you will be able to resume your relationship with your grandsons soon.

There is perhaps one lesson for us older people in this that we haven't learned from the young very well.

When something is going down, record it with your phone to have a record of it. For us older people we don't think to take that action until the situation has passed. For many young people it is their first response. The record of the threats would have gone a long way in court.

I always tell people: don't get angry, film it and litigate later. Too many people are too quick to resort to life ruining stuff like say January 6th type actions, or getting in altercations. And if you do film, make sure you have a backup copy somewhere too.

Fair enough, but the prosecution's not being ready to try the case on a certain date is not automatic grounds for dismissal.  Kentucky rules of criminal procedure allow for motions to postpone hearings or trials.

One of the nice things about not having this hang over me anymore is that I can get my guns back from my son's house and I can have a beer again.

Part of the conditions of my bail was no firearms in the house and no alcohol.

Those requirements I've had to live under ended last Thursday.
