Fuel Duty Hike Planned–To Subsidise EVs
NOVEMBER 24, 2022
tags: Electric Cars
By Paul Homewood

There were reports after the Chancellor’s Autumn Speech last week about a hike in fuel duty:

According to the U.K.’s budget watchdog, British motorists will be paying more for their (fossil) fuels next year. A 23% increase in fuel duty will be imposed from March, predicts a paragraph in the Office of Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) backgrounder to today’s Autumn Statement by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

The increase would net the U.K. government $6 billion, says the OBR. Chancellor Hunt did not mention the measure in his statement to parliament, 17 November.

“This would be a record cash increase,” said the OBR’s Economic and Fiscal Outlook published earlier today. It would raise the price of petrol and diesel by around 12 pence a litre.

Fuel duty has been frozen in the U.K. since January 2011.

In today’s statement Hunt confirmed that electric cars would become subject to vehicle excise duty, but he did not announce any plans to introduce road pricing.

I wanted to wait for the OBR to publish the Supplementary Tables before commenting, and these are now available.

Increasing taxes on a low cost fuel used by low cost vehicles to fund/subsidize the use of high cost vehicles makes perfect sense.  Not to mention the pollution created to mine the minerals to make lithium batteries is never addressed, but that is far worse than anything brought forth by using carbon based fuels.  The lies by the liberal lunatic left are never ending.

If someone wants to buy an EV that's on them, I don't get to use it so why should I have to help pay for it. This is typical socialist redistribution of wealth, in this case most of it will go to people who have much more than I do. Brandon and Buttbanger did this with 'Cash For Clunkers' use taxpayer money to subsidize car purchases for a small percentage of Americans with a Gaia bonus of taking a lot of very good cars off the used car market...no upgrade for the poor said the environmental Nazis.

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

A gambit to make owning/operating ICE autos so prohibitively expensive that it forces people into buying EV's.

Once there are enough EV owners, then the "switch" will come with higher fees, rate increases, mileage taxes, etc. that "compensates" the gov't.

Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

Development of reliable, affordable coal, oil, and natural gas resources does not prevent anyone from installing wind turbines, solar panels, and storage batteries.

There is NO need to make the deplorable, unwashed masses suffer under the yoke of regressive Climate Change policies.

High energy prices have been created by poor Government policy.

We can have solar panels, wind turbines, storage batteries, AND new pipelines.
