Grandfather of Oklahoma Teen Killed by Homeowner in Burglary Says AR-15 Made for ‘Unfair’ Fight

Three Oklahoma teenagers were killed when they broke into a house and were met by a homeowner with an AR-15. Now the grandfather of one of the teenagers is speaking out about his grandson’s death.

According to KTUL-TV, Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner’s AR-15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars.

Speaking to KTUL, Schumacher acknowledged that breaking into a house was “stupid,” but death was not the appropriate consequence.

“What these three boys did was stupid,” Schumacher said. “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die.”

“Brass knuckles against an AR-15? C’mon. Who was afraid for their life?” Schumacher said.

The homeowner who pulled the trigger has not been charged with any crimes because police say he acted in self-defense. But Schumacher reinterated his belief that the consequences literally did not fit the crime.

“There’s got to be a limit to that law, I mean he shot all three of them — there was no need for that,” he told KTUL.

But the homeowner doesn't know the intent of the burglars and three of them against him is a mismatch

One does not know what they are against in the heat of battle, there could of been a 90y/o grandmother or a gang of drugged youth coming... Be prepared and try to stack the deck in your favor when trouble comes a knocking.

Of course it made for an “unfair fight” - that’s precisely the point.  What should the homeowner have done, gramps, challenged them to fisticuffs under the Marquis of Salesbury rules?  “I say, dear chaps, you’re trespassing on my domain.  I challenge you to fisticuffs.”????

Completely admits his grandson was there to commit crime and violence.

The grandson made it unfair when he broke the law and did his little home invasion. He seemed to think it was fair to bring brass knuckles to overpower the homeowner, but grandpa only wants the homeowner to obey some kind of code of rules while he gets his face beat in. Typical thug mentality.

Too bad grandpa wasn't there too and the homeowner could have put his smug, smirky a** down for a dirt nap as well.

What's really unfair is some guy, in his own home, minding his own business and bothering nobody,has his home invaded by three thugs.  The thugs made a very bad decision and put themselves in this position, it was easily avoidable.

Yeah, they were in his house, were wearing dark clothing and black masks, and were armed with brass knuckles and a knife.  Definitely a shoot first and ask questions later scenario!  Sorry grandpa but your stupid thieving grandson won the Darwin Award!

I know this grandfather is grieving but it is his attitude that increases this kind of stuff. Maybe he should put himself in the homeowner's place.

There were 3 people at fault...his grandson was one of them.
