The picture is disgusting.

Conservatives Denounce Pro-LGBT Respect for Marriage Act, ‘Marriage is Ordained by God’

he U.S. Senate decided on Nov. 16 to move forward and vote on the Respect for Marriage Act, and then passed the measure (53-23) on Nov. 17 with 12 Republicans voting in favor. Conservatives, however, denounced the bill as an attack on religious liberty in America, particularly for individuals.

If signed into law, which President Biden is expected to do, the Respect for Marriage Act would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and essentially codify “gay marriage” into federal law. For federal purposes, marriage would no longer be defined as being between one man and one woman.

On Nov. 16, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) tweeted, “Nothing in the bill adds new protections for gay marriage, but it does, in my view, create great uncertainty about religious liberty and institutions who oppose gay marriage.”

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

Like it or not,we do NOT live in a religious police state, and NOBODY has a right to dictate who you can and can not love or marry.

Let the religious loons get away with passing laws banning certain adults from marrying, and the next thing you know there will be laws against heterosexuals of different ethnic groups from marrying, and MAYBE even laws preventing people from the same ethnic groups from marrying each other.

Be VERY careful what you wish for when it comes to laws.

Like it or not this country was founded upon Christian values, principles and morals. Christianity recognizes marriage between a man and a woman.  You are right the federal government has no right to step in and say gays can marry each other and have the same rights as a heterosexual couple.  Nor should the federal government force churches to marry gays, nor should they be able to force a baker to make a gay wedding cake, etc.

The federal government is forcing their hand trying to make others accept what is morally wrong.

Like it or not this country was founded upon Christian values, principles and morals.

Some of which included things like "dunking in the lake to prove innocence" and "buring at the stake for infidelity, tarring and feathering, etc, etc, etc."

"Cool beans,"huh?

Christianity recognizes marriage between a man and a woman.  You are right the federal government has no right to step in and say gays can marry each other and have the same rights as a heterosexual couple.

AND,the government  has no RIGHT to  pass laws saying they CAN'T. We are either a free people,or we are slaves to our master, the  state. Make your choice.

Nor should the federal government force churches to marry gays, nor should they be able to force a baker to make a gay wedding cake, etc.

I am in full agreement with you  on issues like that.

The federal government is forcing their hand trying to make others accept what is morally wrong.

Who the BLEEP are you to even THINK that politicians are in ANY position to establish what is morally right and what is morally wrong?

We are supposed to have laws in this country that protect the rights of ALL Americans against the bigotry of others who disagree with their lifestyles,as long as they are not causing any actual harm to any innocent persons. Or even animals.

The "law" is NOT and  I sincerely hope it never becomes a "tool" to promote the bigotry of bigots,be they religious or any other category of bigot.

That is PRECISELY what they are doing, @sneakypete ... Even twenty years ago there was no such thing as homo marriage. Now there is. Because of government, not the will of the people.

The mishap in your statement is in supposing marriage to be somehow elastic in definition... It is not. For all the long centuries of Man, marriage has been ALWAYS between a man and a woman. That is what it is.

That you have fallen prey to the liberal bend toward changing the definitions of everything is surprising.

But that is precisely what it is doing - Supporting bigotry against Christians particularly and traditionalists in general, and the English language. Over an object which, invariably, is outside the scope of federal jurisdiction.

@roamer_1

The gooberment is providing all the homos who want to marry each other?

The mishap in your statement is in supposing marriage to be somehow elastic in definition...

Let's keep rubberwear out of this.

Marriage is two people coupling, supposedly for life. They create a family.

It is not. For all the long centuries of Man, marriage has been ALWAYS between a man and a woman. That is what it is.

Not true. In some cultures, people married animals who were supposed to have represented animal Gods they worshipped.

In MOST cultures,it was not at all unusual for adult men to marry children. I will grant you they were female children, but a child is a child in MY "book".

That you have fallen prey to the liberal bend toward changing the definitions of everything is surprising.

That you a devotee of right-wing BullBush is not surprising.

But that is precisely what it is doing - Supporting bigotry against Christians

YIKES! It takes an immense amount of gall, historical ignorance,or both to even whisper something like that to yourself in the dark, never mind post it in public. Has there even BEEN a more brutal or bigotted group of humans in all of recorded history than Christians?

"Weeze agonna burn ya at the state causen hit pleases Gawd for usn to do hit!"

Right. A man and a woman... Who have the necessary uglies to bump to actually CREATE a family.

Oh bullcrap. The exceptions prove the rule. I can tell you this: EVERY society that sanctioned homosexuality did so at the very end of their existence as a society. So normalizing homo sex is a great indicator that we as a society are on our last legs... And for good reason.

Again, bullcrap. Seldom under 15, though marriages were arranged long before that. No doubt you can pull an exception or two, relying of course on the escapades of royals and lords, and not the common folk.

And if 15 bugs you, it was much the same even here, a generation or two ago.

Your exaggeration shows your bias. YES there have been Christian abuses. But in no way as brutal as secular governments... Even at their worst. And by and large those Christian abuses were in the form of feudalism in which those abuses were carried forth under the guise of religion to justify a political end.

@roamer_1

Sooo,a couple with one or both of them sterile or just not WANTING children is not a real marriage?

I don't  know about that one way or the other. Given the immense power and bigotry of the various Christian religious cults,ESPECIALLY the Catholics,it seems to me the opposite may even be true.

Many of the "common folk" couldn't afford to marry. Being married involved financial obligations.

Do tell. REALLY. Tell us all about it.

I am especially excited to hear all about "The Inquisition" by the Catholic Church.

Not that the Protestant Churches were much better.

Your exaggeration shows your bias.

One of us is clearly biased.

YES there have been Christian abuses. But in no way as brutal as secular governments... Even at their worst.

Once again,"The Inquisition".

Not to mention incidents by the "more moderate Protestants" who moved to America to escape Papal terrorism and ended up throwing little parties with names like "The Salem Witch Trials",with church punishments that would have caused the Pope at that time to get a boner.

And by and large those Christian abuses were in the form of feudalism

"Feudalism" pretty much DEFINES organized religion.

YES there have been Christian abuses. But in no way as brutal as secular governments...

Either grow a pair and speak up,or admit you are ignorant of history. The Catholic Church WAS the government in Europe for hundreds of years. It is impossible for you to not know this.

Even at their worst. And by and large those Christian abuses were in the form of feudalism in which those abuses were carried forth under the guise of religion to justify a political end.

"Political End" is just another way to spell "Religious End".

You are wasting your breath my friend.  Some times it's better to shake the dust off of your sandals and move on.
