Darrell Brooks Jr., Wisconsin Christmas parade killer, sentenced to six consecutive life sentences

Darrell Brooks Jr., the man convicted of killing six people when he plowed his red Ford SUV through a Christmas parade last year in Wisconsin, was sentenced on Wednesday to six consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for each count of first-degree intentional homicide.

Brooks, 41, stared, glared, and disrupted Waukesha County Judge Jennifer R. Dorow as she delivered over an hour of emotional remarks before kicking him out of the courtroom. Brooks returned to the main courtroom nearly an hour later – and began loudly fighting with the jurist – before he was sent back to an adjacent room, where he learned his fate.

"There is nothing, no other word, that can best describe what happened on Nov. 21 of 2021 other than the word ‘attack,’" Dorrow said, disputing an argument Brooks had made earlier in this day. "I searched for a mitigating factor in this case. I waited patiently for an apology, a true apology. I didn't get it, and not for my benefit. But for the victims."

"There is no medication or treatment for a heart that is bent on evil," Dorow said. "Child trauma, bipolar, indifference, physical abuse of a child or even childhood trauma did not cause Darrell Brooks to commit the acts for which he will be sentenced here today. It is very clear to this court that he understands the difference between right and wrong, and that he simply chooses to ignore his conscience. He is fueled by anger and rage."

That's considerably less than what the Charlottesville perp got for killing one.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

A comparison between the verdicts of the Charlotteville and Brooks trials:

On December 11, the jury recommended life in prison for the killing of Heather Heyer along with an additional 419 years for the other crimes committed: 70 years for each of five malicious wounding charges, 20 for each of three malicious wounding charges, and nine years on one charge of leaving the scene of an accident.[57] On July 15, 2019, Fields was given a second life sentence for the murder of Heyer, with an additional 419 years for the other crimes.

Darrell Brooks will spend life in prison six times over for the death and injuries he caused in the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade attack.

Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Dorow on Wednesday formally sentenced Brooks to consecutive life sentences for first-degree intentional homicide, with no chance of parole, in the deaths of Tamara Durand, Wilhelm Hospel, Jane Kulich, Leanna Owen, Virginia Sorenson and Jackson Sparks.

She also sentenced Brooks to 17 1/2 years for each of the 61 counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, or a total of 762 years of initial confinement and 305 years of extended supervision; and 25 years each for the six hit-and-run counts running concurrent to the reckless endangerment charges.

In all, beyond his life sentences, he was sentenced to more than 1,200 years, including extended supervision.

Thanks for posting, @BellyAche .  The original post seemed to have omitted that part.  762 years is a heck of a lot worse than 6 life sentences.  (And there's not such thing as life without parole.  Once it gets turned over to the Dept of Corrections, their parole boards can do whatever they want.)
